Yesterday I fired up my Lok Programmer. It required an update so I did that. No issues and the update went well.
I had purchased a V4.0 decoder. It was supposed to have the latest GE FDL 16 cylinder sound on it for a GE U30C. I connected the decoder and there was no sound. No startup with F8. No bell or horn or rather I could not tell if it was a bell or horn. Press F2 and I get an ear piercing air raid sound or something like that.
So I went to the ESU web site and down loaded the GE FDL 16 cylinder file. Plugged it in and F2 still had the same ear piercing whatever the hell that sound is supposed to be. Press F8 and I get the motor sound immediately at run 8. No startup. No horn no notching up or down. Again, I am using a V4.0 decoder.
So has anyone here downloaded the GE FDL 16 cylinder for the early GE's? Any experience with it?
I have never ventured into the V4.0 world and trying to read the manual is like me trying to read Chinese. I can only make out the words saying "No Grue Brobs". and that's it. These manuals are absolutely useless for non-techy people like myself. I am thinking I should stick to just the Select decoders.

Hi Brian,
Is the 74445 sound file the one you've downloaded?

David,
I figured out what the problem was and successfully loaded the file.
Yes, the file is 74445.
The problem was me not understanding how to properly use the Lok Programmer and upload files. But forcing myself to work through it, I figured it out. I thought when modifying a file, you only had to upload the data part. I had no idea about the sound part. I thought it all uploaded with the data as one packet, but the data part is only when you change stuff like volume control and function settings. The sound part is of course all the sounds associated with the file. This is true for the V4.0. The Select files, you cannot change and you only need to upload the data part. So I am learning more each time I have to install a new decoder. It is a good thing.
Now I have an incredibly awesome sounding GE U30C.

The Select decoders are no different than the V4.0. You still need to upload the sound file to either of them.

Mark,
Thank you for the clarification. I appreciate the input. I know I have a long way to go and a lot to learn.
