Looks interesting, is it modeled after a prototype? Excellent work so far. Have you given any thought to the chassis?

Nice Lokie! Thanks for posting the photo. I will look forward to reading about your progress. I'm am also interested in seeing how you will handle the louvers and those side frames.

That a nice bit of work for one day. Interesting looking engine. What are your plans for the trucks?

I hope to have the hood sides done tomorrow with louvers. I will post a pic tomorrow night (I hope). I will scratch the trucks, I have built them in O scale but the HO will be challenging. Malcolm

Maybe draw them up, and have them 3D printed using Shapeways? What is truck wheelbase?
Cool project! Brian

Nice I started one a few years ago. It got put on the back burner as other things got in the way. Started with the cab... frame/walkway platform built. start of hood section. Changed my mind and had sides laser cut. Hood section assembled and cast from resin. I was getting ready to start adding the grills and louvers to the sides. I then needed to make a decision on how I was going to do the hood/cab interface. I think I was going to do the entire shell as one piece. I will have to dig this out sometime and get back to work on it. Keep up the good work Edit...I was digging back thru some info and realized that I have not worked on this since early 2008.

Danpik, Love it, especially the laser sides. That is much easier than my way. Thanks for posting. What road were you building yours for?

I really had no particular road in mind at first. The South Buffalo RR had some of these for a while and they are a bit of a soft spot for me. Back on the old Atlas forum in the N gage section there was a long thread from Randy Gustafson who build some of these in N scale. We collaborated a bit on this to produce a decal set for a obscure railroad called the Allegheny and South Side. www.randgust.com/prod03.htm I am planning on doing one of these when I get it going again

where did you get the hood sides laser cut? Honestly, I don't remember. It was 7-8 years ago when I started this and never finished it. I need to dig it out and get it going sometime. Dan

?? Malcolm, there may be Trolley sideframes/trucks that are close,or can be modified into what Witcomb used. find an older Walthers catalog to see what they had in White Metal, and some in Brass[imported] also. Roco had some similar sideframes in the 90s also. Roco may have even had U.S. built locos that were used in Europe after 1945. so You may not need to Scratch Build complete sideframes and trucks. but finding them may not be easy. neat little locos, but don't recall ever seeing any in person. nice start, will be waiting to see this loco finished.
