Had the monthly divisional meet and operating session here yesterday. It capped a week where I substantially finished the diss, which will mean the next few weeks are crowded with revision and preparations, but I'm pretty sure I can see the headlight at the end of the tunnel arriving early in May. Here's 480 taking the pig train back to Durango as it croasses the Rio de las Animas just south (RR east) of town. I also caught it in the yard just before it highballed. An MT stock train heads up the Cascade branch. Finally, a good look at the shadowbox effect near the end of the Cascade Branch at Crater Lake Junction as some of my operators are hard at work in Crater Lake itself around the corner at the end.

Nothing new this week, still working on some projects and various tax returns over the weekend and all week. So some old photos from the library! These are all Exactrails Evans 4780 Covered Hopper Kits I built. I especially did this car as the original factory decorated car had the incorrect color stripe on the car. After the furor Exactrail did release the car with the correct color stripe. Instead of the Bright Green they did a Mustard Green color. Lousiana Midland car, they did not last long with the railroad and were sold to NOKL after a while. This was the only car assigned to this elevator with these markings. I have a few more of these cars to build and need to acquire a few more for the decals I do have. See you all later! Rick J

Always some great looking photos gang. Tim what method are you using to do your chipping on the bc roof? It's made by AK interactive and its called paint chipping. It's a three part process. You paint the roof the under color spray the chipping paint then spray the top coat. Let it dry and with water the top coat becomes loose and you just brush or scrape it off.

I do much the same but the middle layer is hair spray. It works in the same way as your treatment.

Nice work this week Gentlemen. The hopper look great Rick! I have an Athearn 2893 Greenville clone of a PS2, these were used in mineral service. Being a '79 built car this pushes the upper end of my time line, it's an Eel River car that I painted back when the kit was new, I recently upgraded the trucks to Kato S-2 Roller Bearing. I picked up an Accurail 4750 PS2 recently and decided to go ahead and build it this week - It's a great kit, I added some simple parts to and will weather it over the course of the coming week. Rio Grande aquired this group of cars in 11/74, and the were commonly used in mineral service being loaded with Perlite, Gilsonite or Molybdenun. I subbed Genesis 100 ton trucks for the supplied ones, as you can see they are a slightly longer wheelbase and have 36" wheels. Some plastic bits and wire for the trainline. Here's a couple shots of the built model with most of the parts on it (still needs hoses), I gloss coated it twice in an effort to minimize the coarse look of the factory paint, then dullcoted again. I'll have it finished next week.

Combining methods to transfer my track plan accurately. This is time consuming. I'm guessing another 30 hours to complete the transfer.

Nice photo's this week.
Mark, the Accurail car came out very nice. I'll have to hunt one down sometime - had some at the T show but didn't take much money but did find a Kaddee 2-bay cement hopper for $20 - has twin ribs on the ends like the D&RGW prototype vs. the Atlas stand-in.
I have the Eel River beer car kit. There is a prototype in Jim Eager's book with a flat roof and the straight side sills on the bottom. I'm hoping one day to complete mine to match. I did file the ends flat on top with True Sander but sill need to fill in the side sills and bend the peak out of the roof.

I spent the last month or so running a metal cutting band saw at work, and needless to say, it produces the BEST, finest and consistent shredded scrap steel loads imaginable. Needless to say I kept that machine spotless... I have, alot of this stuff on hand. Starting construction on my transfer bridge as well (to load carfloat barges). It is a scale 100' bridge, each girder has over 100 pieces so far. Thank heavens for Archer rivet decals, I am going to need ALOT.

I took a couple grab shots of my Accurail PS 4750 project just to kind of gauge where I'm at with the weathering process. I think I'll probably call it good. I've taken some photos of the build and weathering process with plans to post the entire build in the projects achieve at some point, so whenever I get around to posting that I'll take more photos in better light of the finished product.
No, it's obviously not as good as the Tangent version, but personally, I like this Accurail car better than the Intermountain version. I picked up a DRGW car too, I plan to use it to model one of these Rio Grande "ghost lettering" cars, probably the Kyle version-

People sure seem to be having fun with those Accurail 4750s. A couple roads are already sold out and another is low stock. So much for the doubts about whether they would sell.

I bought that D&RGW one just to have a good look at it, what a pleasant surprise! The few parts I added were fun and easy to do, and you get a nice roster addition for a modest price - Brad's ATSF car above sure looks great!

Brad, the brand of the PS4750 does not matter. You have done a convincing job with your weathering. Congrats! David Lehlbach Tangent Scale Models
