Well, last weekend (and after much deliberation), I took the plunge and purchased a Silhouette Cameo. I have been spending some time with the machine, getting familiar with the hardware and software settings, trying to optimize it for my use. I have been able to cut through .010" sheet styrene as has been reported on several other forums. I will attempt to cut .020" styrene this weekend and will report my findings. So far, this machine looks very promising!
The other cool thing is that because of its origin as a scrapbooking machine, it has tons of other uses. My wife, and especially my kids are very excited to be able to use it on school projects and many home crafts projects!

Donnell, Is that a laser or a blade?
Either way, probably has a friendlier price than the new Micro-Mark laser cutter, which sounds great until you head to check-out.

Hello Mike,
It is a blade. I wish I hade the funds to purchase a laser! I do have a mill though, and I plan to convert it to cnc, but I need to build my workshop first so I can have a place to put all of my tools and equipment.
The price was a hefty $269.99 plus tax. I also added a pen holder and an additional blade which bumped up the cost another $20. Even still, I think this machine will pay for itself over and over with all the things that it can do!

What type of software "Drives" the machine?

Hello Kentucky,
The software that drives the machine is called Silhouette Studio V3. I think you can actually download the software free of charge from the Silhouette website to play around with and get familiar with before purchasing a machine.

How is it at sharp corners? I've heard some cutters tend to radius the corners because of the swiveling blade, although I expect that could be minimized if the tool drivers do proper processing when generating the paths.

Hello Brian,
The Cameo performed surprisingly well at cutting sharp inside and outside square corners. There is an over-cut feature in the software that actually lifts the blade off of the sheet before changing cutting directions, and then places it back down and continues cutting in a new direction. I've only done test cuts on .010" sheet styrene, and hope to try .005" and .020" this weekend. I hope those tests prove equally successful.

What kind of files does it need to cut? I have something that i would love to get cut in .020 styrene if it is able to cut through it.
