The last one was in 2007. An Overland Milwaukee ES-2 switcher.

No, I haven't bought any new brass in the past 5 years. I have, however, picked up several pieces of brass from the used marketplace in the past 5 years.

Have you purchased a new Brass Locomotive in the past 5 years? Informal look at the state of the brass market. Yes, but most have been Hybrid Brass imported by BLI and only a few of my purchases have been DVP, PSC or that type of importer. I did purchase some of the Sunset HO brass in the past five years also but I don't consider those in the same league for fidelity or quality. I just checked Dan's Trains today and one of the O scale Overland painted 8500 Turbines was on their list today that was not there yesterday. It sold today after being on the list only a few minutes at $4995. I had one unpainted O Scale Turbine also Overland and sold it a year ago for a nice premium price also. There is a market for certain brass models and probably always will be. I know the average brass model is not a great bargain any longer if it is a new release. The prices are very high and getting the money back for most models today is not possible, if they make something I really want, I will purchase it. Larry

O-Scale -- four diesel and one T-3a electric from Sunset 3dRail.
HO -- three good-as-new steam via eBay. Four hybrid brass steam from BLI.

Hybrid units are included as brass as far as I am thinking.

There seems to be very little of interest to me that is available in brass and not available in plastic.

I got one as a kid for Christmas. It didn't take long to figure out I could sell it and get half a dozen Athearn locomotives. Since then I have had no interest. Of course, just about everything I'm interested in can be somewhat easily kitbashed so I'd rather just do the work than spend the money.

no new brass here since about 1985. but it wasn't actually purchased,it was a trade that I think was a very good trade for here. the loco was an Oriental ERIE S-3 Berkshire, and the trades were an Alco models FA-1/FB-1 set, Alco Models EMD NW-2, and possibly a Hallmark SD7, and F7 shell to put on an Athearn or Hobbytown Drive, and a Custom NJ Brass USRA 2 bay open hopper. all of the traded models had problems, the FA-1 had a headlite grill about 25% too small, the SD7 had no roof details except fans, common to that run, the F7 shell was a poor model coming apart behind the cab,the hopper had a horribly wrong under frame, or actually lack of the ends, and shelfs under the slope sheets, who dreamt that up ? the NW2 was the best, but it wasn't broken in yet, and was a loud grinder. and that ended a 15 year fling in the Brass Market here. I voted yes because I'm in the process of ordering a BLI brass hybrid (my friend was on vacation, and I know he has a couple available slots left, or at least one, for T&P 2-10-4's).
Otherwise, I have not ordered new brass, but am considering vintage brass (smaller steam like 2-8-0's and/or 4-6-2's).

Yes.....brass is fine with me for certain applications, and sometimes it's the only way to go.

I have not purchased any new brass, loco or car, in the last 5 years except a used DRGW HOn3 K-28 that was part of a lot. No desire to keep it, I sold it and the few other pieces I had including a Westside SP 4-10-2 and a PE Blimp two years ago. Though they were very nice models, they didn't fit the era / location I model. Also sold an Alco models S-6 that I was never going to get around to fixing up. I'll wait for plastic.

Have not purchased any new brass since . . . . . 1976. I have recently 4 Oriental Limited PRR BP-20 Passenger Sharknose locomotives, 2 "A" units and 2 "B" units. Had a set (ABA) decorated in the Tuscan single broad stripe scheme and an "A" unit decorated in the Tuscan 5 stripe scheme. Due to changes in my path going forward {that's another story), I recently sold an "A" and "B" unit and will probably be selling the remaining "A" and "B" unit. They are nice locomotives however have a glaring error on the top of the locomotives. There are two hatches mounted on each locomotive (one above each engine) that are at least twice as wide as they are on the locomotives in real life. I do have some of my original brass from many years ago but it has lost value due to BLI manufacturing the same locomotives in either diecast metal or plastic (PRR I1 (2-10-0), M1 (2-8-4), K4(4-6-2), L1(2-8-2)) Unfortunately, at this point in my life and with what is going on with the HO scale club I belong to and the lack of space to build a layout at home, it is probable that I will be selling off most of my model trains after a lifetime of accumulating and enjoying.

The voting results are about what I would expect today. One out of three have purchased some brass in the past 5 years and I would expect if we polled only the past year, it might show the number who purchased brass in the last year might be somewhat less. The brass hybrid models from BLI have kept me interested in purchasing new brass, but I have never lost interest in purchasing bargain used brass. Larry

I have in the past bought brass items. I have 2 steam engines, a business car, a caboose and a track inspection car. I also at one point had the City of Miami set. Lately I was looking in to the union terminal imports IC dome. I never did preorder one because he never posted preproduction pictures or even a drawing. Well now the model is out and it's painted wrong and with talking to them it looks like they will not fix it. So I'm going to stay with no new brass with me unless I see the model first and it is correct. This is when I'll say I'm paying all of this money for something wrong is ridiculous.

Well, today I got to see the BLI Brass Hybrid UP 4-12-2 up close and personal in real life.
It's amazing--looks as good as most full brass models I've ever seen. Paint rivals the best Samhongsa or Ajin ever did.
If I had money and the radii for it, I'd have bought one (favorite store has 2 in stock).
