Guys,
Just a bit frustrated. I finally cleaned up and rearranged my garage area where I can go full throttle with airbrushing. I've got the Alclad fever and it's so neat to have gotten started again. I want to be able to listen to my music as I paint.
Now, I regularly burn CD's and CD-RW's and enjoy listening to them in the car. Problem is that I didn't know that portable CD players and "boom-boxes" are not capable of playing MP-3 formats!
I purchased a $40 CD-player boom box from HH Gregg since the ad stated that it plays "CDs and CD-RW's". When I opened the box and read the instruction sheet, that's when I found out that won't play CD's with MP-3 formatted music! I tested it and none of my burned CD's would work.
Any suggestions or solutions appreciated. I'm hoping that I don't have to spend $100+. I'd rather spend that on "trains!"

Good morning Antonio! The easiest way is to play your music in the digital format. I am assuming you already have a computer, and buying decent speakers shouldn't be too costly. You can set up your own play lists and repeat them as often as you like.
Also, you could play them from your phone using Bluetooth format speakers. Again, you can set up your play lists and play them directly from your phone, or subscribe to a service such as Pandora, or some other Internet radio service and stream music that way.
You really have many options. I hope you find what's right for you!

Yes,
But my computer is in a distant room. I'm still learning how to use this cell-phone thing that my wife bought me (Yes, I'm a dinosaur, lol).
I thought about the blue-tooth and wireless features but my carrier charges me for data-usage which "stings". I have over 500 smooth jazz and 70s-80s old school top-40 songs saved in my Media player that I want to be able to play.
Perhaps then I should look into an older used laptop with Windows 7 or newer as I realize that most laptops can play MP3 CDs.

Antonio, Now that phones have taken over, they can be a little hard to find. However, small MP3 players can be found. I have one a friend gave me that I use for sound effects on the layout. It uses a single AA cell and is about the size of 3 AA cells. This could be plugged into the Aux output of a boombox or other amplified sound. Some sets of computer speakers offer an all in one solution if they can plug into the MP3 player.

IF you have wifi in the house you can set your phone to use wifi for data instead of pay/data while at home. Or where ever there is wifi. I have two smart phones and two tablets sharing my minimum data plan. Most months we don't use more than a third of that allotment. Outside of home we are very very careful to not use pay/data when ever possible. No watching Netflix in the car while barreling up the freeway! Bluetooth is about thirty feet - not part of your pay for data. Blue tooth speakers can be as cheap or as expensive as you wish. Depending on your media player, transferring music to your phone can be simple, or not. OR - shop more carefully. Boom boxes that play mp3's are out there. Age isn't an excuse. EDIT I just checked Amazon using mp3 boom box as search data. MANY boom boxes as low as mid twenties with mp3 capacity.

I simply downloaded the music I like onto my smart phone. I purchased a connector cord with a male 3.5m stereo plug on each end, plugged one end into the speaker jack on the phone, and the other into the "aux in" port on the stereo. The cord was $5.

Hey guys,
Thank you very much for the ideas and suggestions! Am actively checking out to see which option will work out the best for my setup.
Hopefully I will be posting an Alclad2 related topic soon. Fun to be back in the saddle again :-)

I like close ups, especially with the work that you are doing!

Ok Donnell,
I'm looking forward to it. You did ask me about closeup photos before. I'll make sure to get it right this time.

Personally, I use my smart phone (iPhone) extensively for music. Usually I stream my music as my memory is chewed up by photos, Pandora or Amazon music are my preferred sources. (Amazon allows you to upload your own songs to their cloud servers).
I feed off wifi as much as possible at home. If I'm not moving around much I usually just crank the volume on the built in speakers. If I'm being more active or want more volume, I plug into an older stereo using the headphone jack.

Get yourself an airport express. It links into your WiFi network and has an audio jack. Plug it into the input of your stereo, start up iTunes on your computer and stream music to the AirPort. Works for me. www.apple.com/airport-express/I've got one in the Garage for rocking out while in the shop, and one in the kitchen for rocking out while cooking. Added bonus of not having to burn CD's.

Some boom boxes can be hooked up to your phone or iPod etc. Mine is over 20 years old but it has an aux input on the back. If yours has one you just need a cord to plug in the aux port.
