Here's a video of Engineer John highballing the Hudson out of the shade and around the loops at Jim's layout. Our NMRA division, the Illinois Terminal Division, greatly enjoyed the visit arranged by member Mark. The gauge is 7.25" and it's generally to 1 1/4" scale. [not seeing video here, but works on vimeo for me and on my wife's Mac]
Not sure the first is working or not, so tried a version that is a .mov versus a mpeg. Exact same movie otherwise.
I'll have more pics to follow.

Hoping the video is working, but have another version on standby if not. Here the Hudson is getting fired up, building steam. Boxcar looks good, especially after you hear it went through a tornado and has just now been restored. It's not blue-flagged, but is still bad ordered... Yup, real coal, although they used some briquets to get a fire going quickly. The backhead.

After getting steamed up, our engineer rolls off to pick up some passenger cars... Rides ensue despite the threatening weather, which has to be taken seriously because the Hudson has no sanders. My somewhat feeble attempt at a pacing shot. Engineer Randy with his Illinois Terminal boxcab. In real life, Randy is still an engineer, on a local shortline, only one of several RR men present yesterday. Randy visited my layout years ago when I was still working to fill the room with plywood. I told him to drop in for a visit again next time he's over my way -- he'll be impressed with the progress. It is Illinois, but there is a rather long tunnel that is part of the hillside on the back loop.

A few more shots. For our Rock Island fans, I think this is a RI Baldwin? an Alco RS-2. A tiny "relatively speaking" Mogul. I asked if it was C&S NG prototype and it's not, despite a similar appearance. However, the owner is good friends with one of the authors (didn't catch which) of The RGS Story in numerous volumes, which is a virtually biblical reference work for RGS modelers, so has a complete collection of those. Not so sure about the Mogul, a work in progress, but I'm definitely a little jealous of his library. Here's how visitors get their rolling stock in and out from a spur in the shops area. BTW, the Hudson without fuel or water weighs around 1,300 lb.

Wow! Nothing like having a Central Hudson hiding in your barn, Michigan or no !

Hah, not Michigan, but yes, probably a barn (or maybe a shed), in Illinois. Engineer John just happens to be a farmer in his day job.

Mike, the Rock Island unit looks to be an Alco RS-2. easy to see why this big stuff is called "Hernia Gauges". am guessing that none of this stuff pictured is made in Europe, Japan,Korea,or China. Nice Pics !! Spikre

Spikre, Thanks for the correction, as even a tiny bit of research shows RI 485 was a RS-2. I was winging it because the hood looks so square, figured it for a Baldwin. The Rock had a handful of Mother B's diesel switchers, but nothing like this.

Mike, the top of the hood does have an RS-1 or Baldwin look to it. but the cab is RS-2/3. maybe they didn't want to get lost in the RS-2/3 Hood Top Curves ? the paint job may also be a clue,as don't recall any Rock RS-1s in that fancy Paint scheme. how does the Loco run ? Spikre

Spikre, I'll bet you're right about what look to be some oddish looking curves. Those are certainly simpler than what Alco did.
Dunno how it runs. I've seen it on display somewhere before, but think it's actually all-electric, so maybe it was charged? I think they said all the non-steam was battery powered anyway.
