Hello Is there someone that know when the prototype of this hopper where first built?

I'm pretty sure, but not 100% positive, that the prototype for the Trainman hopper is the Norfolk & Western's H-11 three bay hopper.
That would put the first appearance in the early 1960s.

When did Atlas first start making these cars? I was aware of then in the early 80's but how long before that did they come out with them?

I have a price list dated March 1977 that shows them for $2.25 each. I'm not sure if they came out earlier than that, but 1975 sticks in my brain. They were also made in the USA in NJ at that time, I still have one lettered N&W.

Don't know if the same dies are still used but if so Atlas has to be pleased with the return. I first bought them in the early '80's and paid about $2.00. Later there was a price increase and the price went up to $2.25. That was before the internet and from one of the very few hobby stores that discounted prices.
