I have a bunch of tapes to digitize. I have a regular VHS deck without S Video output. I am reading you get much better results using a Super VHS deck with S Video output. The converter I am using has the S video connector if I want to use it.
Anybody have any relevant experience ?
Thanks!

If the original tapes are VHS you will not see any improvement in picture quality. VHS recorded at 240 lines of resolution and S-VHS at 420 but if the original tape is VHS, which most pre-recorded tapes were, there would be no advantage for you. S-VHS could be "downconverted" to play on VHS component cables but the opposite was not possible.
I'm in the same boat, lots of tape to get to DVD. Some of my originals are on 8mm, Super 8 film, VHS, VHS-C, S-VHS, Hi8, Digital 8 and DV! I'll be busy, too!
Have Fun, Ed
