just saw this in the latest RMC. with 3 SD45 models already on the market BLI is ready to crash that party. it will also have Improved Noise for those that like that Option. since BLI Already has an SD40-2,that wasn't considered for a new model. that may disappoint some ? Edit -- this Public Service Announcement doesn't Qualify as an Endorsement of This or any Other Coming Product. Spikre

I have 4 UP Walthers Proto SD45's. I pretty much decided that is all the SD45's I need however if Walthers were to do a EMD Demo or C&NW without dynamics I would consider going back to the well.

eh49, even if EL was offered in this run, wouldnt get any. don't want or need sound for units that spend most of their time Boxed Up. now it would be Tempting if they did EL 3632, the Bi-Centennial unit. but did pass on the 3638,so there is still some resolve in me bones. Spikre

I have a whole bunch of Athearn RTR SD45s which have prototype specific detailing, D&RGW, SP and UP - pretty happy with them for the price; I'm good but it will be interesting to watch and see.

didn't include the Bachman/Spectrum/Sound in It unit SD45 as no one here has ever done anything with them except maybe introduce them to powerfull cross-cut saws. Spikre

Why can't they spend the resources on something that has not been done by multiple manufactures?

Sorry BLI, but for that price I can get a couple Walthers/P2K SD45s and be happy. I sold off my Athearn RTRs back in February on eBay and have no regrets with that move. Now, I’m just waiting for prices to drop a little more on the newer Walthers models before I buy. My guess is that we’ll see prices on those SD45s fall as these BLI model hit the market.
It will be interesting to see how the hard line rivet counting crowd judges these. If memory serves, the SD40-2s were not received well.

Mark as someone mentioned above, BLI's models with a list price of $330. IMHO wont impact walthers prices at all. especially if the detailing is the same as their sd40-2. Go to ebay and if you don't care for roadname there is a history of sold prices as low as $40-50 for recent walthers grey boxed units.

Absolutely zero interest in a BLI SD45 in any road or configuration. Nope ! Nada !

I'm good on the SD45...now if BLI announced the SDP40....well that might perk my ears up.

About the only things that would get me interested in a new SD45 is if they did the CNW non-dynamics, or did the SCXY SD40M-2 pair (with the correct modified hood doors, of course). Doesn't look like BLI is doing either.

For the timeframe I model, the EMD SD-45 would have been a year or two past the last year I model. But, back in the days when I had to have a few of everything, I ended up with four Kato HO Scale SD-45 locomotive . . . to go along with my four Kato HO Scale SD-40 locomotives. Although the Kato models are not as finely detailed as newer locomotives, they fit my needs and are fine runners. Didn't notice, will the BLI SD-45 locomotive have smoke generators?
