Little Michael Jackson and Jackson Five were "going back to Indiana". I'm heading back to the Land of Lincoln, well at least for a while. I'm escaping from behind the cheddar curtain, where cows out number humans. On the positive side, I might actually see a real train for the first time in many years! Got Trudy's toys, food, dishes, grooming tools and table already loaded in the van. She is more important to me than anything else, included choo-choos!

Jim, Illinois needs lots of improving, so let me be the first to welcome you to the Land of Lincoln. Your presence can't hurt. If you end up anywhere near Urbana, you'll have a layout or two I'm sure you'll be welcome to operate on.

If you end up anywhere near Urbana, you'll have a layout or two I'm sure you'll be welcome to operate on. I was born in southern Illinois, across the river and up the hill from St.Louis. Spent the first years of my life in that area. Then spent 1968 to 2006 in the Chicago area living in the southern and southwestern suburbs. Now, I'll be back near Joliet. At least I can see Metra in person again. I rode Metra/RTA/Illinois Central Gulf and the Chicago South Shore & South Bend/NICTD to and from first the U of I at Chicago, then known as UICC or Circle campus and then for work. Did that for 25 years. Can't wait to get my mouth around some REAL pizza again! P.S. I can not though go back to being a Chicago Bears fan. It's the Green & Gold or nothing....Go Pack!

After reading about people leaving Illinois in droves due to the tax increases, surprised you are going back. It was tied into an article about Oreo Cookies plant going to Mexico, said people and companies were fleeing Illinois and not going to the south but to Indiana, Wisconsin, Iowa etc., want to live in the midwest but not pay the Illinois taxes.

Jim I was raised in Southern Illinois for the first seventeen years of my existence and it was a good place sixty years ago for jobs and life in general. It probably is different now but I have two sisters still living there and they seem to enjoy their life in farm country.
I hope the best for you and hope you can find work and get back to making those great models.

Good to hear, Jim! I agree on the dog...we have a couple and one in particular, a Welsh Corgi - Terrier mix, has attached herself to me. We adopted her at the Fort Worth car show 5 years ago. Went to look at cars and ended up with a dog!
She just flat out makes me smile.
