I am constructing a modern-era layout and 2 of the featured industries are a coal mine and coal-fired power plant. Walther's Cornerstone kits are perfect for the buildings but finding affordable, high-quality vehicles can be a real challenge.
Kibri makes the only HO scale mining equipment models and I found everything I needed at MicroMacroMundo. Their prices, selection and customer service are first-rate.
Kibri models are excellent with nice detailing, minimal sprue material and most of the parts are movable. I have no clue what one of these kits would cost you if it were offered as assembled but my guess is well over $200.00.
Pictured here are some of the Kibri mining equipment models that are ready for decals and weathering.
The most impressive one I recently purchased and am still assembling is a 1000 ton mobile crane which is going to be used either in a bridge construction or power plant scene lifting something very heavy. I will post pictures when it's finished later this year.
Also...the selection of long-span double-track bridges is very limited so I went with the two European kits pictured. I needed a double-track bridge that can span a valley and be tall enough for another railroad to pass underneath and the Faller Bietschtal Bridge was the only solution. This kit takes several hours to put together but it is impressive on a layout. Again...the molding and detail on these kits is incredible.
I did purchase one of the Central Valley double-track truss bridges but when I found out it was a craft kit and many pieces needed to be cut...it's sitting in the reject pile and I went back to the old reliable Bietschtal kits that I built for another layout.
The only other option...at the time...was the first version of the Walthers double-track truss bridge but it didn't have the clearance for husky stacks and Auto Max cars but they have now released a new model that works with modern equipment.
High Ball,
Lee
