I accidentally dumped this in the Lounge, but it really belongs here or DCC forums....sorry about that. Anyway I have a bundle of older RS1 lcocs from roughly ten or so years back. Some of these critters would be well served with a sound and DCC up-grade. The newest Atlas release with Lok Sound has got me to thinking, but I'm unsure if this gear would fit into the rather tight RS1 hood interior space. So, what say you, hive mind, on this decidedly chirpy turbo question?? Anyway I can stuff this equipment into the Chinese version ? Will we have enough room for a speaker? How about the chip? Decent lighting will be a big plus too. The new railings would be great too, but they really need the new frame to pull it off....and that means tons of extra $$$. Too much work / cost means we'd be better off waiting for the new version in the right road names; OK for some roads but not for all of 'em !

I answered in your other thread, but there should be no reason you can't install sound in one. I did with earlier models and older, bulkier electronics.

This is good. Even though the new RS1 is really awesome, the older one ain't that bad, and certainly worthy of getting the "treatment" !

Loksound has an Atlas style board (Select Direct) or their regular Select and Micro Select - all of which would just fine. The selection of speakers is a lot more varied today than just a few years ago. I used to regularly install 16mm X 35mm speakers in RS3s and RS1s, but with the "discovery" of cell phone speakers (also called sugar cube speakers - Google them), you can fit speakers into places we never thought possible and still get some incredible sound.
I installed a Loksound Micro decoder, sugar cube speaker AND a stay-alive module in a hi-rail truck (even threw in headlights and tail lights for good measure) ! Installation in an RS1 would be simple in comparison ....
Mark.
