Big news this week, after the 4 ops sessions in 13 days marathon ended, was adding a track to double the capacity of the original single track spur into Webber Wholesale. Since adding the lumber yard and coal dealer, they've hardly got a car in edgewise because of the constant traffic for Webber's. Now there's plenty of room for both. Basically, in the pic above, everything at Webber's moved about 2.5" to the right into the big lot in front of the complex. It actually gave me an extra car slot on the new spur, because of the way things fell together. This immediately led to thoughts of making Webber a little longer by expanding it to lengthen the dock. So in this pic, I slid the building addition on the far right out some to show the total length with the dock addition. Here, the fill has been made to extend the building. Adding a canopy along with the dock extension worked out well. On the lot side, the shifting cut into room for the longer trucks to back in. After some testing, I decided to add a dock door on the extension to suit longer trucks. It's not shown here yet, but goes behind the Carnation truck. Have a great, productive week! BTW, looks like the first Thursday and second Wednesday ops sessions will hold for the fall in early evening. If you're interested, drop me a PM if you're in the East Central Illinois area.

I managed to finish a couple of cars this week. To further add to my NKP fleet of cars here is a Front Range 50' ACF Combination Door Boxcar, Extended Coupler Pockets and A-line Sill Steps added. Painted with Scalecoat II Boxcar Red, Floquil Platinum Mist and lettered with Microscale Decals. Con-Cor 60' Greenville Box Car, removed the rivits as I was making the Thrall version with Welded Seams, Extended Coupler Pockets and A-Line Sill Steps added. Painted with Scalecoat II Boxcar Red and Floquil Platinum Mist Paints, then lettered with Mask Island Decals. Car is in Auto Parts Service for Ford. In keeping with the NKP theme, a pair of Athearn GP9's entering the siding with a mixed freight. Thanks for looking! Rick J

Beautiful work this week guys! Here's my "builders photo" of GN 138569, this is a Cannon & Co PC&F prototype built for lumber service in Aug. 1967. The kit builds up from successive layers of laser cut plastic, car side, rib section and hat section with details like door bars and roller track being added after. The kit uses an Athearn Genesis PC&F under frame, 70 ton .088 tread roller bearing trucks, Plano cut bars and Nick Molo's excellent draft gear. It's a very satisfying kit to build, I'm pleased with the results and will be trying another soon. Of course it's not really done until it's weathered, my goal is to get the model looking like it did in this excellent shot by Ron Hawkins from 1977 in K Falls, OR, I'm pretty excited to try! Cheers, Mark

I built this 12 years ago and upgraded a few months back. I had a copy of the plans and got to crawl all over the car in Waycross, GA at Rice yard Bobby

Hey Dave!
Good to see you in Portland, had a great time at the show, bumped into folks I hadn't seen in some years. I had to do this car#, Ron Hawkins shot of it was just the inspiration I needed, I did use Dan Kohlberg's decals for it, they worked perfectly over the car's ribs. If I recall you had a nice NP car at your booth that I may have to try that one next.
Best,
Mark Hills

Mark Was really good to see you too. I thought I'd bust you about the number. The chance of both of our cars being seen together is real small. Ron has some great photos from the 77-80 time frame in SoCal. I've used several of them on some of the other cars I'm doing. I should have them on the web site as soon as I make some stock. This is an old Walthers 65' LPG tank car kit upgraded with Plano walkways, wire grabs and Detail Associates stirrups. I've always liked the old orange stripe Procor cars, this kit is a fairly close match for the prototype, but not 100% correct. Brad

The Walthers car would look much better with a nicer bonnet. Your model looks very nice, great weathering!

Scratch! With Evergreen styrene tube, it won't be difficult. I've built several for my tank car projects. They're lots of great photos out there. Use the original for basic dimensions. Replacing the hinge and locking mechanism on the original would be a good alternative. Again, a very nice model with outstanding weathering.
Regards, Bobby
