SMD announced their second car a few weeks ago and I haven't seen any chatter on this group about it. SMD has an Early Bird Special going on for the next 6 days where you can get 10% off if you make a deposit before 8/15. Their B&O I12 caboose will be available in 4 different paint schemes (first run) and six numbers of each scheme. More info can be found on their site: www.smd.ccIf have seen their canstock car, you know what level of detail these are all about. I can't wait to get some.

Bill, there was a discussion about the SMD B&O caboose over a month ago, between 6/18 and 6/23. I don't know yet if they lasted into CSX. Ciao. Raffaele

Thanks for the reminder - I just ordered one. Thing is, I'm not even a B&O or Chessie modeler. I can't think of a single locomotive or piece of rolling stock with B&O markings on my roster. Still, I had to have this caboose. I guess now I'll need some locos for it...

Yeah, that's what you need!

Just sent in my request for an invoice for three of them. I really only need one that I'm going to renumber to match a preserved caboose along the CSX right-of-way in Baltimore, but I love these cabooses and had to get a couple extras. Bill, there was a discussion about the SMD B&O caboose over a month ago, between 6/18 and 6/23. I don't know yet if they lasted into CSX. Raffaele - I found one photo of a Chessie caboose that apparently lasted until at least July 1992 (Harley Kuehl photo from Fallen Flags in Lackawanna, NY): It's actually one of the numbers Spring Mills is offering, but you can see how Chessie renumbered them later in life by adding "90" to replace the "C" - in this case, just patching it over with white and adding the "90." Not very pretty, but I ordered this one so I can have one that lasted into the CSX era. Dave

Wow, that sure looks like a die sink in the middle of that roof. Bummer! And couldn't they have filed the sprue down to roof level. I do like the weathering, though.

At least they clipped off the trip pins, Ed!

Great to have new and niche companies in the hobby. I am not a B and O modeler but good for those that are

I don't know - I feel like I've opened Pandora's box with this purchase...

It's AWFULLY hard to stay concentrated. For some of us. While my modeling is centered on the Northwest of these United States, I have fond feelings (and cars and locomotives) for the RF&P--I used to look out the window in ninth grade and watch their trains leaving Potomac Yard. MY "guilty pleasure" GP40's have a script monogram on their flanks.
These things happen.
