LA Times article--Why are so many oil trains crashing

Today's LA Times had a very interesting article about the increased number of oil train crashes and why problems with the track in colder weather may be the cause.

Pipelines do not derail. The insistence on shutting down pipelines leads to more oil trains thus more oil train derailments.

Yes, but pipelines spill more than 3 times the amount as trains over the period of 2004 to 2012. Looks the like the Keystone pipeline leaked over 16K gallons earlier this month - seems no one in the news even cared enough to report it.
