Amen! Here's a few scenes featuring the High Dome... The flood lights are a SUPER feature! Maybe just a tad on the LED cool-white side as far as color temp. but pretty sharp just the same... I know there's hot topics about the cost vs. value of model equipment ongoing but, for me, a passenger car of this caliber at just under $100, which is the "deluxe" version with Preiser figures and lighting AND the roof flood lights is a bargain compared to what was previously available. I think Walthers hit a home run with these Capitol cars. Ed

I have 2 non-lighted cars coming which I will strip (HORRORS!!!) and repaint into the B&O/C&O corporate scheme since Walthers chose not to do that scheme. Will go nice with the 2 factory painted coaches I picked up earlier.

Not knowing the B&O, did this car exist in real life with those flood lights on it? What was the reason for the lights? Wiki about B&O DomesYes, The B&O ran the only dome cars in the east and the floodlights illuminated the surrounding scenery. I'm sure they were only turned on during the early part of the evening and probably not lit much after 11 PM or so. Even after conveyance to Amtrak you can still see the mounting pads for the flood lights on the roof here: B&O High Dome in AMTRAK service
Thanks for asking, Ed

....And they look every bit as good as the photos. Anybody want to make some suggestions for Head end equipment for this chooch say around 1960 ?

Beautiful car at an affordable price. I can appreciate it even if not "my" railroad.
The lights are cool.

Will go nice with the 2 factory painted coaches I picked up earlier. I wonder how soon, if ever, Walthers will make these cars available in the simplified C&O/B&O scheme. They could do early Amtrak, too. Walthers did make the coach in the gray/blue/yellow scheme: B&O Late Scheme
I have been hoping they would make a Pennsy, Budd twin-unit diner in the plated version, after the Tuscan was stripped in the late '60s. It could run as PRR, Penn-Central and Amtrak. I thought they would make it a part of the "New" Broadway Limited coming out later this year but, no... still the Tuscan painted version. Do they ever listen? Thanks for the kudos on the photos... Ed

Budd PRR twin diners and ex Budd 21 roomette reconfigured as coaches would be nice, but unlikely, as they are too modern for the taste of most PRR modelers/fans that buy up all the PRR stuff offered. Has anyone tried to convert a Walthers Budd 21 roomette into a plated coach?

I'm hoping to attempt my first try at chrome metalizing paints I bought the stuff that Antoniofp45 suggests AlcladII, but now I see another contender SPAZ? SPAZSTIX PAINTI'll follow-up when I get to the project, soon I hope! Ed

It's a beautiful car and I am tempted to buy one even though I don't model the B&O. However, shouldn't the seats be a different color? www.google.com/search?safe=active&tbm=isch&q=B%26O+strata+dome+interior&spell=1&sa=X&ved=0CBoQvwUoAGoVChMIkpyZvdPAyAIVSnA-Ch0xRwVS&dpr=1.25&biw=1536&bih=755#imgrc=B7bD7qpyvGzTRM%3AI only bring this up because I am in the process of removing the interior of a 2-rail O-scale Osgood-Bradley coach for display to paint the generic seats a light blue-gray. I found it hard to live with the seat color as it came because the windows on those coaches are sooooo big. I wish manufacturers would just mold the interiors in something close to the right color especially on a specially designed and marketed name train like this one. Does it cost more? It's especially a pain to re-do the deluxe version with all those nice Preiser people installed. I've always passed on repainting seats or just bought Rapido passenger cars if they fit what I wanted for my small passenger operation. The Rapido interiors border on overkill. Bill McBride

Bill McBride I received my car today. Bill, it's worth buying. My flawed memory tends to believe the seats were blue/gray or Royal Blue, with either a black or grey floor. My last ride on the B&O was 1968, so take my recollection for what it's worth.

I ordered both the Deluxe set and regular set of these dynamite Best & Only cars. So the Sky Dome (regular version) will get the correct painted seats as a matter of course. That Bethlehem B&O RPO is boss, likely gonna get one pre-built with instructions to match the Walthers paint colors. Will use this plus the Walthers converted troop sleeper to beef up my head end component. They also have a nifty RPO/ baggage combine, that would look really kool in B&O paint. Picture this: the big B&O A-B-A of E8s up front; then the storage mail troop sleeper; then the BCW B&O RPO; then the RPO/baggage combine; then the baggage/dorm/ coffee shop/lounge....followed by the rest of this outrageous chooch! Beano...all the way - every day !

Do you recall what year the B&O removed the car names from the coaches? I set up a test track with the Baggage Dormitory, the dome and the coach. They really look sharp. The E8s are due next, in early December. can't wait.

I was only in the Dome one time, and that was at night - from Youngstown to PGH. Can't tell ya the exact color here. I'm going to the illustration in the link.

While going through some photos of the Columbian on Google, I noticed numerous photos of High Dome and Sky Dome, without the roof radio antennas.
I was under the impression that since there was a lounge area under the dome the as delivered Stratadome Coaches had rooftop antennas for broadcast radio reception. That's the way Walthers modeled the cars, although they used the late 50s to 60s paint scheme. Apparently, they were removed at some point, or were never there. Anyone know?
