I've seen HO scale versions sell for 3k on ebay and on brasstrains they sell for almost 3k within minutes of being posted. I guess that type of turbine is the "in" thing right now. Someone would have to be a giant idiot to pay all that money just to put it on a shelf in the box for investment purposes. As cool as the units are, I couldn't imagine shelling out that kind of cash for them. That's like 5 months rent.

True, but Dan's trains has been getting $3400 for the last run HO Scale GETEL in the past year. I have some previous runs but would not consider paying that type of money for the latest run. It is nice no doubt but I still believe Athearn will offer this model in the next year or so. The purchased the rights for the early Gevo and the Ace and it is my hint that they might have got the drawings for the GETEL also. If Athearn does offer the plastic version, the extremely high prices will soften to the mid two thousand range. I would purchase an Athearn model of the GETEL if they offer it, but would not sell my Overland versions. The price range of a plastic version both powered with sound would probably be in the $1200 range. Just a thought. This model is rather rare since only a few O scale turbines were imported. Larry

O scale. Who knows those folks have expensive taste. O Scale rare models have been expensive for several years. I sold off most of O scale models over the past six years getting a rather decent price. The O scale turbine below sold for $ 2600 at a LHS two years ago I owned it for about two years and it sold quickly when I consigned it.

It's been my experience that OM UP GTEL8500s in O scale are every bit of $3600. or more, depending on the variation. One has to understand that many of these Turbines are unique to the prototype number with the appropriate details. When I had the opportunity some years back to get #30, I jumped as fast as my two little feet could go ! The rest of my O gauge Turbines are MTH model...of a much lower order. HO scale people are going to get a real treat when the Scaletrains models hit in April, next year. Beaucoup variations, and all detail correct! It's an awesome time to be into UP Big Blows....first the Athearn RTR Verandas and Standards, and now the new GTEL8500s !

I had the decals but decided to sell it for decent price about two years ago. I was surprised that it sold quickly since a decent paint job would run at least $500 to $700 dollars. Larry
