Ok, no sprucing up, straightening up, cleaning up, or posing... take your camera and take a picture of your workbench as it looks right now and post it. Well make sure it's suitable for general audiences anyway Mine as of 5 minutes ago: Andy

This is it right now. I'm getting towards the end of a truck project, so that's what's on it. This is a little something that has saved me a lot of messes. It's simply a 2 X 8, in this case Cedar, but any wood will work. Using Forstener bits I drilled several cavities to fit different sizes of paint and glue containers. Since I did this, I've only had one spill, and that was because I got careless and I didn't use it.

I'm too chicken to post my bench. I have a large bench like Andy and Rick's, and like theirs, mine only has barely enough working area for 1 loco/car at a time. I need a separate workbench for my workbench... Mark

Nice. I'm planning to build something like that for the car side of the garage once I get the walls done. Already have the power tool outlets in place!

You definitely have an active workbench. I spy what appears to be a brass locomotive precariously perched on an Atlas box. Will that be going into the paint shop?

Well I am working on a couple projects right now. 1st is DCC/ Sound/ Lighting install on 6 Athearn and RPP locos. 2nd is modifying the handrails on 2 Atlas Amtrak MP15DC's. You ask why my bench is so clean and I have a simple answer. Having family in the food business I noticed sheet pan racks so I got one with plastic trays to hold all my projects as I am working on them. So I can put projects on trays and slide them in the rack and continue on them as I see fit. This leaves my work benches clean and I don't get things mixed up. The rack I have holds a total of 40 trays but I have some tall stuff that takes the place of 2 to 3 trays so its never too full. lol

Not much to look at, but here it is, as of about 10 minutes ago. I have 6 cars that need to have portions of their roofwalks reattached, but haven't been able to find any barge cement.

Welcome Steve. I'm glad you found us. I like your setup, and as one guitar picker to another, I'm diggin' the axes. Thanks for the welcome. It's a long story, but at one point when I was doing very well career wise I had a collection of over 20 high end acoustics and electrics. Times have changed, all that's left is a '96 Strat and a low end Martin (OMCX1KE). But much like model railroading, I'm appreciating the two guitars much more than having a collection, and am getting used to the "less is more" frame of mind. BTW the shell in the foam cradle is an interesting project I'm working on for a friend..painting and detailing 3 NYS&W GP-18s in their original as delivered livery. Fun project...for another thread very soon!

Someday. It's a rare phase III C39-8 from OMI. I don't actively model the 90s anymore, but the C39-8 has always been a favorite and I came across it on ebay to go with my phase 1 (painted) and phase II (not painted). I took it out of the box to check it out when it arrived... 2 months ago? and there it sits while other stuff goes on around it. I set out to clear the bench when I was at home recovering from surgery in Feb but that didn't go according to plan either. I did make some progress but since then it has gotten even worse.

Here's the mess, ignore the guitars in the corner, that's another hobby... I own a guitar but it's more for when someone comes over who knows how to play it. My music room is adjacent to my train room... never the twain do mix, although for a while the Kato Karpet route had a loop through the music room but I took it out in 2009 to re-arrange things. Also a mess right now. The banjos are my wife's. My main instrument is in the case on the left, and my newest (and loudest) toy is straight ahead. I haven't had the volume past 12 o'clock on that compact Leslie, and I don't plan to. Not in that room anyway. Andy

I'm appreciating the two guitars much more than having a collection, and am getting used to the "less is more" frame of mind. I have always wanted a Hammond... yep, in addition to modeling the city of Hammond, I always wanted a Hammond B3. Well they run into big bucks and they weigh about 500 lbs, and the newest one on the market is pushing 40 years old. So I bought the latest Hammond electonic "clonewheel" and a real Leslie, and then just a month ago I bought an L112 spinet for less than the price of a Genesis diesel. Without sound. And it's a genuine tonewheel Hammond, probably circa 1965. It's in the basement until I can find enough muscle boys to get it (300 lbs) up two flights to sit next to my XK3C and maybe figure out how to hook it to the Leslie. It has a built in amp which isn't very powerful, but it's a genuine Hammond tonewheel/drawbar organ. Cost almost as much in gas to drive to Indianapolis and back to pick it up than I paid for it. It's amazing to me that the L100s are practically given away for the haulage, but a B3 in this condition will require multiplying by 6 and adding a zero. Yeah, I do want one "someday" but before that I'll be adding a second manual to my XK3C. Choo choo related topic: my Leslie is a Model 2101... just like this guy: Andy

Very cool Andy! In my room the workbench, guitars and the computers all share space, it's a little tight but I'm making do. I'm just glad I have another spot in the house for the new layout!

My guitars hang on the wall in the model room (where my trucks and cars are displayed). I have a Fender Strat and an Epiphone hollow body, which for me is enough right now. These are played through an Ibanez 65 watt amp, which also works for anything I play. I've got some friends that informally get together occasionally to play some gospel/blues, but were not interested in playing professionally.

Nice Strat! Mine's the same except for a maple fingerboard. Have never owned a hollowbody, maybe someday.
Back to workbenches...I just took a tally of my open projects (not for myself, all for customers)...17 diesels in various stages of completion. No wonder I have a hard time getting anything done for myself!

The only equipment that I miss from the old days is my Peavey Classic Chorus 400 amp. It was fantastic on the first instrument, but the second was noticeably shorted in power.

Why is it, no matter how big your workbench is, you always end up with a ten inch square open area to actually work ?
Mark.

Why is it, no matter how big your workbench is, you always end up with a ten inch square open area to actually work ? Mark. We all really know the answer. We just don't want to admit that whilst in the middle of whatever we're working on, everything just gets put all around said project and then when we aren't looking, is just creeps ever closer to said project!! ;D

I've got a Peavy T-60 guitar, though I haven't played much since college...20 some years ago! Also have a Peavy amp. Anyway, my layout under construction IS my workbench... Actually, that's an old shot and only shows a minor section of the layout, but you get the point!
