We just got our first cat and along with it the cat "facilities." Every time I dump some new kitty litter I wonder if this stuff has any modeling potential.
Has anybody used kitty litter for anything model railroading wise? Looks like great loads or scenery!

Clumping or non-clumping? ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) Hmm, I never. It wouldn't be good if it's litter with the odor stuff meant to kill the other odor that the cat then gets used to locating. If the cat got trapped in the train room, I can just guess where it might "go." ![::)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/eyesroll.png) I'd imagine that using cat litter would conflict with many of the water-based scenery methods.

Jim Norton Huntsville, AL Once you cat finds out you are using it on the layout, it will have potential. Sorry, I just could not help myself. It probably could be used and it is inexpensive. Maybe someone has tried it and can let us know the results. Larry

I used it as ballast on a tinplate O layout many years ago. It didn't look bad, and the price was right. I was able to ballast the entire layout for $5.

It works fine as rip rap. The challenge is finding some that is grey in colour. Some of it is grey-greenish.

John Longhurst, Winnipeg One brand was a off white and I can't remember the name-I got a freezer bag full from my daughter several years ago and she no longer uses that brand and doesn't remember the name. I know it was a brand name.

Does kitty litter have any modeling potential? More than the kitty does...

Gee Curt, you even hate cats? ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) (Not a fan here, either) BUT I appreciate the fun and pleasure that some claim to derive from the feline. So no wars here, please.

Regular clay ballast is fine. Use it for rip rap.
