Did any 40 footers make it to the 70's with wood roofwalks? Or were they all steel, or even removed, by then?
Thanks for the help!

many cars went to scrap after the 60s with Wood Roofwalks. but they would mainly be cars built before 1945. some cars in MOW service had wood walks thru the 70s,or even later, look at pics of Work Trains in the Color books. last verified Wood Roof walks were on a Illinois Terminal Bay Window order built about 1952 by St Louis Car,but there may be a few others ? the ITC cars were a Clone of NYC Bay Windows,so they were rather Modern looking cars over all. Edit- until North American bought Mather in the early 50s its doubtfull that Mather used many Steel roofwalks. same with shopped cars,if they were built with Wood walks, they likely kept them unless there was a major rebuilding project for the cars in question. can recall walking on some Wood Walks in the mid 60s at the town lumber yard.some pre war cars came in there from FtDD&S,NP,and MN&S from time to time with Wood Walks.the cars were a good place to watch the evening commuter trains come in to the Coach Yard,or run thru to Suffern or Port Jervis. While some box cars were still running around with roof walk into the 1970's and even later, the reduction of 40' box cars in the 1970's it was probably few and far between. Probably most of the 40' box cars with wooden roof walks surviving would have been in company service and limited to home rails such as MOW etc.

Thanks, guys. That was pretty much what I thought. So, I guess it would be OK to sprinkle a few here and there.

Santa Fe stock cars lasted late into the 1960's, and some I believe into the 1970's, still with wood roofwalks.
Intermountain offers several correct cars for Santa Fe.
