I managed to finish some cars this week! Here is car #8 of 12, Tichy Anderson's car, which is an old Panel Side hopper of the Wabash era with an extension and canvas cover to protect the grain from the elements. Car is fun to build but time consuming, painted with some green tinted Floquil Platinum mist and then lettered with kit supplied decals. These used to run behind my house in Toledo, OH. Athearn ACF 2970CF Covered Hopper kit, painted with Scalecoat II MofW Gray and lettered with Herald King Decals. Atlas FMC 5077CF Boxcar kit, painted with Floquil Railbox Yellow, and Platinum Mist paints, then lettered with Herald King Decals. Thanks for looking! Rick Jesionowski

Is that HO scale?? Great looking car. How hard is it to finish it like that with the chrome windows accents etc??

Yes its HO scale. It's not too bad if you've got a steady hand, a good brush, and an optivisor. The bumpers and chrome trim on the hood and trunk was done with Bare Metal Foil. I also use a silver paint pen wherever possible. I believe I did the windshield and back window trim with one.

Some pics taken from testing before yesterday's ops session. It went well, minimum of issues and everyone really enjoyed the experience. First up, the Durango switcher making a run to the ASARCO smelter. Later, the New Mexico-Colorado Express is caught passing through Purgatory, heading for the end of its run at Crater Lake. After turning and reassembling its train in Crater Lake, #60 is prepared to start this leg of its run as the Colorado-New Mexico Express, Destination: Santa Fe.

Beautiful work this week guys! Crappy weather means I'm shooting indoor pics........ Here's GP30 3006, this unit has recently had some of Big Al Mayo's LEDs installed as headlights and Mars - Wow, very nice Al! Trailing the 3006 is recently rebuilt SD45 #5339, this unit's frame has been milled and all traction motor cable, conduit, filters etc added. It's upgrade included coring the fans and replacing them with Cannon & Co. parts Trailing the power are two Cargill 4427's, one Exactrail, one LL2PK And some recent Atlas cars still on the bench, they're nice additions to the home road car fleet......These still have a ways to go.

As Mark said, lots of great photos! Mark your engines are outstanding! I finally painted my Bachmann cylindrical. As soon as I decal it and upgrade my track board, I'll take some outdoor photos and post them.

A couple of weeks ago, my family game a birthday present--the Fyfe Building Kit by CMR Railroads. This is a pretty awesome model to build. It is made out of laser cut acrylic. The parts go together very well and because the kit assembles in modules, there are no large panels to warp as in other kits. Also, I think the lack of warping is aided because it seems as though the acrylic is less prone to warping than styrene is. Since the parts are no on sprues, it can be hard to find to find a part. Here is a picture of the partially completed first module: And here is the completed first module ready for painting: So far, building this kit has really been enjoyable.

Nice work everyone.
Jim I have one of CMR's turntable kits. Never have installed it but it is nice to look at sitting around the layout waiting for a home. It appears they are using white acrylic now. My tt was clear 1/8" material mostly.

I always had a soft spot for these Buick's. The summer of 1967 I worked as an intern in the photo dept of the Flint Journal and attended the introduction of the 1968 skylark the GS was based on and snuck a photo of one Felt like 007 at the time now realize it was really ho hum. GM made a ton of 'A' body cars over the next number of years. Your model certainly is not ho hum, more like HO Yum!

It always looked like it had been rear ended to me. Personally, I think Buick got it right in 70.

Mark, lovely Rio Grande diesels and box cars! Is the #5339 a renumbered small herald Athearn RTR?
The new Atlas box cars have two minor discrepancies from the prototype that I was able to see. One, the frame/side sill under the ladders should be straight until the first tab in the side sill rather than extending down. The first wide tab side sill extension is angled on both sides rather than just one. A file should take car of both.
The other two box cars look great and the ladders replacing the grab irons matches them up. Remind me, are those IMR ladders?
The Cargill hoppers have always been one of my favorites. I wouldn't mind it if ER made that large circle herald version. I have a couple of the stock P2K versions although yours like nicer.

Her step dad was plant manager at Buick's axle plant so we were able to buy Buicks for less in those days.

Hey Jim!
The SD45 is a heavily rebuilt Kato, I milled the frame and used Evergreen channel stock to simulate the prototype, there's lots of little detail bits added to it, as I've been adding decoders to models I've been upgrading and setting them up as lead units (with fully functional Mars/headlight) or "B units" just as the D&RGW did. The boxcars aren't exact, but certainly close and are great replacements for some previously sold off Blue box. The RBLs are a lot more work, especially the solid orange one. I'll have some other shots to post soon. Your black caboose is coming along well!

A well done KATO SD45 makes for a nicer model; it's a Liz Allen model only Rio Grande rather than Southern Pacific. She's done contest quality SP KATO SD45's. The box cars by Atlas are really nice paint jobs out of the box. The black caboose will be a great addition!

Here's my finished 87RPM resin kit of a 1968 Buick GS. Like the GS Buick. It's nice to see something out of the ordinary. I have been collecting HO scale vehicles for over 30 years that will work for my layout set in the transition era, 1957 to be exact. I thought I had most everything available until I found these two. The First is a 1957 Chrysler Imperial and the second is a 1949 Cadillac sedanette. Caught them on sale but were still a bit pricey at $15 each but the details were outstanding. There are even etched windshield wipers on them. Had to get my magnifiers out to catch them

WHERE DID YOU GET THAT? Inquiring minds need to know! www.dutchart-models.nl/87rpm/p-1a-1/ Unless you speak Dutch, I suggest you contact him directly. I ended up finding him on Facebook through the 1/87 scale vehicle modeling page. He speaks very good English. These kits come without wheels and tires.

Very cool model John, takes me back to my 1st car, 1969 Skylark. I bought it for $175.00 and I would really love to own one again. Don't think I could pick it up for that much though. lol
