Great stuff, Bobby, James, and Tony! Bobby, That QC cryo car must weigh a ton if it's metal? Train time in Durango can be busy... Things are a bit sleepier -- and older -- at the end of the line in Red Mountain. Up in Animas Forks, some freight still doesn't move on the tracks. Up on the Cascade Extension, the forces of modernity look to put the burros and their master out of business.

A reefer train headed down line on the Sunset Valley Oregon System, Bruce Chubb's magnificent layout. A pair of SP cab forwards provide the power.

My Sow's Ear........A Roller Bearing Models 50' Waffle Box that I'm attempting to assemble with some better and scratchbuilt parts........Ugh, the carsides are like working with a stale Jolly Rancher bar, brittle and prone to fracture when you're trying to cut it. Here's one of the sides. These two are next up to be weathered, they represent 1974 railroad repaints so they'll be fairly clean when done. Happy weekend guys!

Mike, believe it or not, the QC car is not very heavy. The tube is conduit and the ends aren't very thick. I replaced a lot of metal parts with styrene and that helped.
Mark, this is a project that I really like, keep us apprised.
Regards, Bobby

Working on a little history on display project for my home office: When was the middle picture taken? I was at a re-enactment of the ceremony a couple of years ago at an NMRA regional convention.

I spent the last two weeks saying goodbye to my first attempt at a layout. The 1x4 box construction wasn't as nice as I wanted and the track work and wiring were not very good. Out with the old In with the new. It's a lot lighter and cleaner than my first attempt and my track work and wiring is much cleaner. Will have the facia built soon as well as the removable cassette, and I plan to mount it on shelf brackets to the wall. And finally the inspiration is this small industrial spur near Woodard station in central NY with a modeling era of 78-82 Conrail I made some compression and had to straighten it out a bit but It still has the right feel. I will be operating it backwards of the prototype, entering the layout at track spot 743 instead of 222 but if I ever get more room I left it open to change that.

I took this at the WGH Show in San Antonio Texas yesterday. This is on the Gulf & Western HO club layout. ScaleTrains.Com had one of their turbines running around the layout for the show. The club had 100 car plus reefer train behind it. I didn't get a picture of the train running but it was very impressive. The turbine sound was very cool. DavidB Click on the pciture to make it bigger.
