I have been out of town the last couple of weeks. When I returned home, the April edition of MR was waiting for me. Since it is only early March, the thought of April Fools pranks did not occur to me. But I was reading an article about a new series of products being introduced by a new manufacturer. I was halfway through the article when I knew I was had by the folks at MR. I don't want to spoil the joke for those who have not seen it, but I thought the joke was pretty funny.

It was better and more subtle than some recently. Couldn't get anyone to talk about it except our very own Jim F. and one other person, in contrast to some pretty long threads in year's past. Maybe they do that sort of thing on "social media" (no, thank you) now? *Check out this neat feature here in ARF's software, too, if you're prepared, just capitalize spoiler inside brackets and it's a very handy command* Anyway, here's what I thought of it...
Who would've thought that such a kit could come out? Amazing. I suspect we'll be seeing an Old Timer's Special Edition that will include sequoia seeds for the hobbyiest who likes to really sock away a long term collection of kits for future planning purposes. Seed Scale Models indicates that it will provide enough lumber to build a roundhouse, plus benchwork for a 20'x40' double-deck layout it will be the centerpiece of.
Their builder of display models indicates he anticipates completion of his example kit about the year 3365....

Jim The normal early mailing of the magazine usually gets me thinking about what is wrong with this article before I realize it is the April edition!!! Thanks. I will be on the lookout for the latest. Larry

I haven't subscribed for years and only occasionally peruse copies of MR at the local library so I'm not usually on the latest and greatest; so spoil me all you like!

It's already been posted on several other forums so here's a clue.
A pine cone and some acorns...

This year's wasn't particularly clever, I thought. Not like the subway layout from several years ago.But I'm not a very big April Fool's fan anyway.

I always forget about the MR april fools gag but I do remember seeing the picture of the pine cone and reading at least part of the review but became either bored or confused and moved on.
So I have to agree with grahamline on this one.

Yeppers. Heck, the only reason I am reminded that there is such a beast is people ALWAYS bring it up on the MR forums every year. Otherwise I would be none the wiser!

Personally, I think MR has become an April Fool's joke...

I'm not entirely sure who the joke is on! The seed kit is something I was not really surprised to see considering some of the 'proto freaks' I've seen on some forums, there are people who WOULD and DO plant the trees for the wood to make the model. I know, I know but it's true. If I met anyone who actually did it I would be torn between envy at the skill and patience it required and laughing my but off that anybody would actually do that!
