...well, after the announcement was made that Atlas was shutting their forum down after all these years, I started frequenting a few other ones that I'd signed up on a number of years ago to get my daily fix. It simply wasn't the same, the only other forum that I check out each day is Train Orders, which has a dedicated model railroad section. All of the others require you to wade through a wide array of headings, sub headings and quite a variety of topics. When I go to a forum I want to be able to easily see what's new and not have to spend a lot of time searching to locate that answer... ...what we've got happening here is really quite amazing when you think about it, courtesy of Donnell we have all collectively resurrected the basic feeling that the old Atlas Forum had. We just need to remember to stick to the KISS principle and keep our new forum up and running - it's now my first stop each day, good old TO will remain fixed in 2nd spot, so let's make this forum the best and keep it that way...!!
cheers,
Lorne Miller

Glad to see you On board, Lorne.
I believe Donnell would like to see this place come alive with the knowledge, experience, modeling and open discussions that we are all familiar with. I like your title..... Let's make this forum "the best". You're exactly right, it will take all of us to make it come alive.

So far it looks to be off to a good start. I too hope that this place evolves into something familiar to us all...I've been lurking at other forums and none of them really take the place of the Atlas forum. Thanks Donnell, looking forward to making a home here!

I finally got activated after several non-intuitive roadblocks. I guess I got the email to activate but assumed clicking on the link did the activation (like most sites) but not so. Finally figured out the error of my ways!
I was on Atlas for over a decade. I thought it was the best out there, despite its issues. The MMR forum is just too big and diverse. I've lurked on TrainBoard and while I was in N scale I dabbled on The RailWire. So, I went a searching...
I found The RailWire and TrainBoard to have HO forums that were dead. They seem to draw the N scale crowd more than anything. Railroad-Line was highly recommended, has a huge crowd, and seems to behave, but it is so granular with sub-forums that one would have to check so many different places to keep up. I peeked at ModelRailroadForums but that seemed a bit disorienting as well.
I've monitored this site, and I have to say it looks like it is on the "right track" right out of the gate. Only 150+ members so far, but it is on target, and just the right sub-forums. Pretty sure this will be my home.
I commend those who have taken on the challenge. I have run forums as well as several mailing lists. I continue to publish Keystone Crossings (internet's largest all-Pennsy site) and AlphabetRoute.com.
I raise my mug and say "Cheers!"

It's good to see a fellow Penna. modeler here. I'm more of a Reading guy, but I am planning a layout that will include a portion of the PRR's Schuylkill Branch. I don't know much about it, however.

Jerry, I'm glad you made it. I remember you well from the "mother" forum, and always enjoyed your comments.

Ya, s'nice. I like the vibe here, I thought it was difficult to get mad at another modeler till I got on the 'other' site. Hard not to bash em when praising this one but that's the way it is.
