I hope everyone had a good week and was able to balance life with some good work time at the bench. I got these trucks weathered down and installed to finish up an old boxcar project.

Scotty, What a fine waffle for Sunday morning! My Like button is broke right now for some reason, but let this count instead for now...Looks like I'll have to reboot anyway, because my suite of editing buttons has also disappeared. Back in a moment with pics, I hope. OK, much better now. Finished up everything except signage, final landscaping, and a few details of my Sunnyside boarding house project. It's premised as a building that's been rebuilt and expanded several times. If I had chosen one of the earlier versions, it might look like this when it was just the co-op store... Naturally, they have electrickery in this modern facility... And cozy and safe steam heat, piped over from the boilers at the mill. Not much room for the town in Eureka, which is assumed to be back across the bridge that leads from the turn in front of the boarding house. But this structure helps a lot in making the whole place look busy enough to support the Sunnyside, which was a really huge mill even by San Juan/Silverton standards.

Managed to finish a couple of cars this week! Intermountain PC&F 40' Reefer Kit, the NYC purchased some reefers from PC&F for use in transporting banannas from East Coast ports to other parts of the country. Replaced the plastic sill steps with metal ones from Yarmouth Model Works made for this car, substituted a Plano roofwalk for the plastic one. Car was painted with Floquil Reefer Orange, Scalecoat II Boxcar Red and Black and then lettered with Greg Komar Decals. Intermountain 40' PS1 Boxcar Kit, painted with Scalecoat II Boxcar Red and Black and lettered with Mask Island Decals. The Copper Range was a 108 mi. railroad that ran the length of Michigans Keweenaw Penisula on the Upper Penisula. Railroad was in service from the 1890's to 1972, mainly serviced the copper mines on the Keweenaw. My latest acquisition, some motive power (Including 1776) for the Delta Turn which supplied Auto Parts for the Ford Fast to the west coast from various Ford Plants on the DT&I. Thanks for looking! I like what I see so far. That Q boxcar is outrageous! Well, I just couldn't resist a couple more caboose projects. I revised my roof design to improve the embossed diagonal panels (not shown below) and cut some of the material cost but that just made it prone to warping. So I kept the improved diagonal panels and reverted back to the solid roof design. I was able to save the roof parts with a hairdryer and some pressure from my fingers to get them back into shape. I don't model either Soo Line or Rio Grande myself, but what can I say? I'm a sucker for cabooses so here are the latest projects I've started to replace factory Atlas EV caboose bodies: SOO 65: Rio Grande 1518: I forgot to mention: these are assembled with CA and primed with Testors Model Master primer.

Well, great stuff this week! Rick, I got all five of the DT&I GP38-2's, they are nicely painted, but not impressed with the horn/beacon location, and I am definitely replacing the spark arrestors with DW parts, as the Athearn parts are mis-proportioned. I haven't done anything with them, as I have been busy with track work. 2 weeks ago I posted a couple pics of Ford Park, but that was just all the tracked fitted. Actually soldering of feeders and joints, and setting up control links for ground throws since. Almost done. Regards, Brian

Brian Brian, I agree, all my pictures of DT&I units have the horn./beacon location much further forward and I will be replacing my spark arrestors with the DA or DW parts as they do not look right! Brian,
Just curious, are the turnout controls going to be permanent or will you put turnout motors under the layout eventually?
The size of the cables is such that they wouldn't be hard bury in the scenery. Where did you find them?

No plans for Tortises, except for signals or TO boards. I like the feel when operating of throwing TO's by hand. Because layout is double deck, it's easier to not have to reach in to do this, so use piano wire (.025") in teflon tubing to remote caboose industry ground throws to switches.

I've also run all the switch controls to the edge of the layout for my main yard. I use music wire in a small aluminum tube but have all straight run from switch to ground throw. It's easier for me to see which control goes to which switch. Once covered with ground cover I'm sure I'd forget with the curved controls clustered together like Brian's.
