I'll start with a brief tribute to Jordan Highway Miniatures, here represented by a Model A Ford station wagon. Like many of Jordan's neat little kits of various vehicles from horse-drawn to rail-running, you'll find that it's sold out everywhere. This longstanding line of steam and transition era classics may be unavailable unless someone picks up the line in the wake of the recent death of the owner and son of its founder, Jordan Jackson, in February. RIP Cutting down a Tichy jib crane, I added it and other details to an old brass flatcar to make a MOW rail and track material car. Built up a old Minicraft/Hasegawa 1:72 kit of an A-37B. It's a sister to the familiar T-37 jet trainer that several generations of Air Force pilots transitioned into jets after basic flight training. It's also the only plane I've ever "flown," as my old scoutmaster in Texas maintained Link trainers back in the 60s and my assistant scoutmaster at the time was in pilot training. Compared to the very common flight simulators you can install on most computers, it was 100% analog and the "visual effects" consisted of a gray painted canopy. Very authentic ride, though, for its day. Result? One Aviation merit badge. There should probably be a cloud of Photoshopped smoke being emitted here as Alco #60 hits the grade leading out of Purgatory...but you'll have to use your imagination...

Here is a project that started out a a quick weathering project. Well almost 8 weeks later and a lot of research I turned a Walthers Milwaukee Road Stock 1940's Caboose into a 1944 version. I did this by combining The Walthers Ribside Caboose with a Ribside Models short rib boxcar kit. The stock sides of the Walthers car were cut out and replaced with the Ribside boxcar sides to Accurately Model the smaller ribs of the prototype as well as to add extra intermediate ribs with a panel scribe and .010 styrene rod. The weathering was done following a photo of the real 1927 that was used in Wisconsin. This is my 2nd try at proto weathering and is a whole new set of skills. Looking a bit worse for wear. Color is a bit off as this photo was taken under all florescent lights. George Toman

I managed to get a couple of more cars finished this week! Eastern Car Works Enterprise Covered Hopper Kit, added all brake gear piping and substituted A-Line Sill Steps for the Cast on sill steps, also substituted a Plano Etched Metal Roffwalk for the kit supplied plastic roofwalk. Painted with Scalecoat II MofW Gray and lettered with Aberdeen Car Shops Decals. The Canada Southern was an NYC Subsidiary that operated in Ontario from Windsor to Bufallo, the NYC sent three cars from Lot 747H to supplement the converted USRA coal hopper cars. They lasted until the mid 70's. Intermountain PS 4750CF Covered Hopper kit painted with Scalecoat II MofW Gray and lettered with Oddballs Decals. To be used in general grain service. As an added plus my new GP38-2's with an auto parts train on the Strongsville Club Layout. Thanks for looking! Rick Jesionowski

Have a good sunday all,
I'm working on my Intermountain/A-Line 40' 5-unit-wellcar factory painted in the blue BRAN paint. When i received my set i was very dissapointed about the lack of details. So i ad a lot of Plano etches metal parts and many grabirons. The cars recieved also a new paint in an different and lighter blue after i blanked out the original lettered areas. I mounted also new articulated bolsters from the Athean maxi III cars. In the pictures you see the cars after the first wheatering steps. I hope, that the cars are completly ready for the next sunday photo fun I changed also the trucks with Kadee 513 trucks. The truck in the picture is completly not finished yet.

Marcus, great stuff! I struggle with motivating to work on stack cars because of the repetitiveness detailing a multi-unit car. I'm trying to start with a Husky-Stack and one of the 56' well cars.

Well, I did finish a few things this week after three days of hunting a DCC short, which I finally found. First up an older project of a NS C39-8E from an Atlas D8-40C: The Second Mask Island Southern brickier with Mask Island Decals set 2 for these car which is the late renumber. I added brass door odd and PSC clamps to detail the doors, painted with TCP Southern Freight car Red: Next up is N&W SD40 1594: Last is an interloper a cheap Kato UP AC4400 I picked up for $50 from an estate, used a Paasche air eraser to fade it then flat finish and a few oils: Thanks for the good work posted above which helps keep me pointed in the right direction.
