Recieved 2 Rivet Counter Tank Cars today, but, both had a issue. 1 had a broken coupler, he other is missing one of the Blue bearing caps.

Are they metal or plastic couplers. If plastic, most replace with KD's anyway? Are the blue caps press-on? Expect ST will send you replacement in the mail.

Coupler is Plastic. I sent ST a email. Thanks eh49. I see the e-mail in the sales mailbox so we'll send the parts today. Also, the Rivet Counter couplers are die-cast metal. Shane Shane Wilson President ScaleTrains.com, Inc.

That's good that ST is using metal couplers.

Unless these couplers are unbelievably awesome, I will replace with Kadee 118s. Same thing with the Turbines and water tanks.

jaygee, how do you like the Walthers proto metal couplers? AFAIK, they are the only other KD clones out prior to this that are metal.

Thanks Rob, I couldn't remember the full name. As far as I can tell, the ProtMax are indistinguishable from the KD #5 couplers. They have come on my Walthers 89' flat cars and others. If ST can offer something like that, there would be no need to change them out.

Unless these couplers are unbelievably awesome, I will replace with Kadee 118s. Same thing with the Turbines and water tanks. Unless your preference is for an oversized undetailed black blob with a brass colored spring and ugly metal "glad hand" they are unbelievably awesome. The Scale Trains couplers are all metal, have good detail and are painted a realistic rust color. It would certainly detract from the overall appearance of the car to put Kadee black blobs on them.
