Thanks for visiting us over at the new walthers.com!
Our goal is to bring you a site providing great service, easy access to information and help you find the products you need for your layout. We know it’s hard when any site changes, but the many upgrades now in place should make it easier to shop, especially as more of us rely on mobile devices for all of our online needs.
We’re working out some of the kinks that are inevitable with a project this big, but your feedback is helping us better serve the needs of modelers everywhere.
Since the site went live we’ve already fixed a few problems that modelers brought to our attention and we have additional changes planned based on your input.
Let’s address a few topics.
Search:
The search box that appears in the upper right hand corner on the home page at www.walthers.com uses a more powerful search engine. This new version actually searches much more of our database than the old Advanced Search, and along with the new filters, greatly enhances your search capability.
If you want to focus your search results even more, use the filters on the left side of the page to narrow your search. If you don’t see the filters on your screen, click the “show filters” tab on the left side of your screen (on a computer) or at the upper right of your screen (on a mobile device). Take a look at our Search Tips here: www.walthers.com/advanced-search-tips and give the new search feature a try. We are developing an “Advanced Search” tool that operates similar to our old one, but we feel it still needs some work. We plan to return this feature to the site, but only after we’re satisfied it provides the capabilities you need
Yardmaster Catalog:
The Walthers database contains literally hundreds of thousands of discontinued and sold out items dating back to the 1980s, it generally provides a brief description of the item and its last retail price. The old site didn’t have full access to these items so they weren’t searchable. The new site DOES provide full access to items that have been discontinued and were sold out during the last 2 years.
New Features:
* We’ve now integrated the Hobby Shop Finder with Google Maps so it’s much easier to find hobby shops near you: www.walthers.com/storelocator
* Related products are displayed when you view the individual detail product page. This is particularly useful if an item is out of stock, as you can see similar items that you could use instead.
* The new site allows registered users to manage multiple addresses, view and cancel back orders, and see the detail of previous order activity.
* We’ve been working more closely with our vendors over the last several months to improve the accuracy of delivery information. This is an ongoing program and we expect our delivery information to continue to improve going forward.
* The site is now Mobile friendly for easy use on a tablet or smart phone.
Coming Soon:
Like any major project, a lot of ideas generated during development don’t make the initial rollout. But your input can provide the basis for additional features down the road. Since the architecture of the new site provides more development flexibility, going forward we can be more responsive to your needs, so look for continued changes in the future.
As we’ve been testing the new site, we’ve discovered some unusual things in our data, which isn’t really surprising considering we’ve been compiling this information over the last 50 years! If you do come across something odd or inaccurate in your search results, drop us a note at custserv@walthers.com and we will get it fixed as soon as possible. If you’re having trouble with the speed of the site, please check your browser, as the site should run well on current browsers.
In Closing:
Since Bill Walthers got things rolling back in 1932, helping other modelers with information and products have been the cornerstones of Wm. K. Walthers, Inc. a tradition we’re proud to carry forward with our new website 85 years later. Thanks to all of you who’ve given us feedback or simply followed along. If you have additional questions while visiting the new site, please call, email or visit www.walthers.com/faq. And thanks for your continued support.
