Can you even imagine how large of a layout you would need to have to have 400 throttles going at once. That would be one heck of an operating session.

I'm more intrigued by the 21 pin 2-function decoder. It looks like it will go nicely with the new Rapido engine?

The benefit of 400 throttles to me isn't so much using them all at once, but being able to assign 400 individual throttle addresses. Many clubs allow members to use their own throttles in addition to using the club ones. With larger clubs, having 400 unique throttle addresses makes life a lot easier when it comes to assigning individual addresses to members' personal throttles without worrying about running out of addresses and ending up with duplicate throttle addresses. Being able to use them all at once is a nice bonus, but like yourself - I can't imagine a layout where all 400 might get used.

I'm more intrigued by the 21 pin 2-function decoder. It looks like it will go nicely with the new Rapido engine? Not just Rapido... Bowser and Intermountain switched to 21-pin plugs on their non-sound models as well, I believe. Atlas may have as well. DH126 decoder itself is not actually new, it's been out for a few years now. This is just the 21-pin connector version of an existing decoder. But as more and more new locos show up with 21-pin plugs on non-sound versions - this is definitely a welcome addition for the low-end basic decoder market!

Interesting! I think my club (building a 6300+ sq. ft. HO layout) will be getting a DCS240. We've run into the Slot Max problem (120 addresses) many times. Bumping that up to 400 will help that along quite nicely.
Plus built in PR3/USB, built in programming track booster, built in loco slot reset button, no more CMOS batteries, refresh packets for functions being sent continuously, etc. I like it and I can't wait to try it.
For the record, this is the first new command station from Digitrax since the Zephyr 2, and the first new "full size" command station since the Chief came out in the 1990's. I believe I'm rather stoked about this one (translation: "GIMME!! GIMME NOW!!!").

Slot Max can be solved with teaching everyone at your club how to properly dispatch.

jonklein611, Bwahahahahaha! "And for my next act, I will attempt to herd cats..."
My 65 fellow club members are great and all, but they are not the best at remembering things like not leaving switches open on the mainline, or turning off the light in the bathroom (now it's automatic), or arming the alarm system, etc. I'd be amazed if they can all remember to properly release locos for slot max issues (and yes, they've been told...repeatedly).

I know, it's like trying to nail jello to a tree. What our club ended up doing was doing a slot reset after the show weekend. That's something I wish digitrax could improve on. Have a "club" mode, where once the throttle pops off loconet, any locos it dialed up are released.

If my quick read of this is correct, it means that this unit will deliver enough oomph to program those [often sound] decoders that needed a booster in the past?
That is a welcome change.
