Hi Jason,
Saw the news update and am very interested in the paint line as my current stock has been shrinking now that I'm back in with paint projects again.
A roadbed that quiets things down? Definitely want to check it out as wheel noise on cork-based roadbed can sometimes be a bit annoying.

Jason, as a forum member, not as the Rapido owner, can you tell us which Intermountain and NARC 4550 Cylindrical Hoppers are foobies? I have an IMRC CSX car with round hatches and a NARC SKNX Saskatchewan in green. Are they both foobies? Ciao. RG

Jason, as a forum member, not as the Rapido owner, can you tell us which Intermountain and NARC 4550 Cylindrical Hoppers are foobies? I have an IMRC CSX car with round hatches and a NARC SKNX Saskatchewan in green. Are they both foobies? Ciao. RG There's far too many Intermountain paint schemes on those hoppers to comment on the accuracy of each (and it probably wouldn't be "proper" for Jason to pick apart the competition's models one-by-one). Intermoutain did paint schemes on their cars representing all sorts of prototypes from the 3800, 4100, 4350, 4500, 4550 and 4650 cuft hoppers from all three manufacturers, plus some ACF 3500 schemes (i.e. the Atlas car, a totally different prototype). The Intermountain car is based on the NSC 4550, so any cars IMRC did whose prototypes are National Steel Car 4550's are likely correct or close to it. There's also Marine Industries and Hawker Siddeley 4550's that are close in appearance, but with small detail differences. NARC's version represents the Hawker Siddeley version, but unlike IMRC, they seemed to have stuck to only doing cars that actually are HSC 4550's. All the Saskatchewan cars are Hawker 4550's. The IMRC CSXT car, assuming you have one of the 226000 series cars, is a total foobie as it should be an ACF 3500 (Atlas cylindrical). Like the 4550, the 3800 was built by MIL, HSC and NSC with the usual small detail differences. The main distinguishing spotting features however are the shorter length, lower sill/frame design, and straight body ends. A good reference for Canadian freight car rosters (that also lists builder and capacity of hoppers) is: www.nakina.net/index.html

i like how your expanding out into other things!!! Whatever happened to the flex track you guys were working on? Easy peasy lighting? The track was a nightmare. Our factory at the time told us they had track and sent us an amazing sample. We gave them an immediate order and launched the product. We even crushed one of the samples under a real train! Then the stuff arrived and it was garbage. They hadn't really made the track. They had taken someone else's track sample and sent it to us. We sent it all back and demanded they retool it. They did, and the resulting track looked good but the rail was not the profile we specified and the spikes were too small. We stopped working with that factory as we can't work with dishonest people. So Bendy Track died with that relationship. I'm using Peco 83 and Shinohara 70 on my layout. I wish Peco did code 70 as their track is phenomenal. As for Easy-Peasy, they will be back in stock later this year. -Jason

The main distinguishing spotting features however are the shorter length, lower sill/frame design, and straight body ends. The differences between the various builders' 3800s don't seem as pronounced as with the 4550 cu. ft. cylindricals. Some of the early Marine Industries cars were built with 'T' section walkway supports, and some other cars had high-mounted brake wheels, but other than that the major difference appears to be the configuration of the brake equipment at the ends. MIL and HST cars are very difficult to tell apart without a roster. Of course some 3800s were built with trough hatches and others had pressure unloading pipes below the sill, but Rapido isn't making them (yet?).

Just placed an order for the Noise Killer Roadbed, one each of the main & branch line profiles. Good timing on this new release before I drop bucks on roadbed. Using MDF as my base, I'm going to set up a few test roadbed/rail sections, run a sound unit or two & compare this to cork and Homasote.

I'm really happy to say I've ordered a 3800CF through my local dealer - at last I'll own a piece of Rapido equipment - yay!

I can't wait to get a few of those NSC 3800s! The prototype is a perfect choice for a Canadian car that shows up all over the U.S. I see several CN and CP, and one Procor car in my future!

Rapido strikes again. Between 1600 GMD-1s, RDC, NPCU, the Skyline dome (if it actually makes it this winter) and now the 3800s and the wells/containers - this may be a painful winter for my wallet. Just hope they don't all come at once...

Just hope they don't all come at once... The Skyline will be late next year. The moulds have serious problems and we have to recut a lot of them. Recutting old moulds wasn't in our budget, hence the delay. This affects all of the Budd cars - we should have been on car #3 or #4 by now. There are other issues with some of the other old moulds - such as the SGU - but that's another story we plan to share through our newsletter later this month. These are just a couple of the wonderful headaches involved in running a model train business... -Jason

I knew that there were issues with the Budd mo(u)lds, but wasn't sure if the Skyline was affected or not. Guess the Walthers car will have to last me a bit longer... I'm glad that I managed to snag an SGU from the original run. And this will be what, third newsletter in the span of a month and a bit? Who says summer is the slow season in model railroading?
