Adblock Plus works with Firefox and Chrome - maybe other browsers. There is an Adblock "branded" browser available for Android and iOS phones and tablets. You won't see this political crap. And you won't see that political crap. Nor that other political crap. Nor all the other borderline offensive advertisements. Sure, you might miss a free beer daily giveaway or an occasional free pickup truck, but you really have to make the effort to screw your own head on correctly. It frosts my buns  that ProBoards puts a whine at the top of every page about me using Adblocker Plus and then goes right out and puts up this political crap for ads. |

Spikre With that being the case, online ads are normally "catered" towards the browsing habits of the user. Might just be that other folks were searching for stuff like that (or from the same IP address, which could be the whole lab, etc.) and you got stuck with the ads. |

jonklein611, the county library has around 400 computers,believe they are all under one address,so that could be the problem. most get used plenty from opening at 10:00 AM until closing at 9:00 PM, Fri and Sat 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM. so guess we'll just have to live with those ads. Spikre

Recently, I've been getting full page pop-ups from Proboards, demanding I disable my ad blockers, or buy a subscription.
1- Ain't gonna happen, Proboards forever lost their ability to display any ad of any kind on my computer during the 2016 election.
2- I'm not going to buy a subscription to make my experience ad-free, when their actions are the direct cause of me getting and using ad-blockers.

Been getting those same Proboards pop-ups too... guess what, Proboards? It ain't happenin', period. There's NOTHING you can advertise that I will buy... NOTHING. Nada. Zilch. Zero. Nothing. Your efforts to expose me to your ads is pointless, mkay? I'm never, ever going to buy a Camry, I surely don't need Viagra  , and I wouldn't have voted for Hillary (or Trump for that matter) if you pointed a 12 gauge at my head. So stop it. Seriously. |

Proboards is getting more aggressive with their "can we talk?" popups. I used to be able to create a single rule for blocking them, then it went to needing a different rule for each thread, then each new page for each thread, now, it's not only every visit to the thread, it's even if I simply refresh the page. When the time comes that I am forced to disable my adblockers simply to use this forum, it will be the last visit here.

And, more concerning to me, FIFTEEN trackers were blocked as I drilled down to this thread. The nag in this case was a very large banner - maybe two thirds of the window - that I found a bit offensive and, frankly, a bit racist. Yeah, folks got to make a buck. But, surely, there are less sleazy ways to do it. Just for grins I tried Epic on Trainorders (Pay forum.) I drilled down to a single thread and had only three trackers. No ads, of course. The only nag is the one yearly email reminder to renew. Although the model forum on TO is heavily biased to the west, SP specifically, the prototype and historical coverage is really impossible to find anywhere else. If this Atlas group becomes unusable, I still have that important and well policed resource. |

Followup:
I clicked on the ProBoards Privacy Policy link which is at the bottom of every page. It is very troubling. Particularly in regards to the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and the California Do Not Track law. Here's part of a ProBoards statment in that regard: ProBoards does not respond to DNT signals . . ." And aren't responsible for the 15 trackers I receive by coming to this thread because that tracking is by thirdparty advertisers. I have a feeling that a court case could be made in both those cases. It is troubling is that ProBoards belligerently makes no attempt to review or control those third party advertisers. They excuse any and all foul behavior with a "I'm not looking!" sort of policy.
I've got to do some thinking about staying active here.

I'm not getting any popups on this site. Perhaps it's because I'm using Chrome and have popups blocked.
I disabled adblock on this site, so that Proboards gets some support. They can't run the servers for free.

Only ads here, today, are for the pro boards and Coach purses, both at the bottom of the page, and a purse ad near the top so I need not scroll down that far anyhow. Saw neither until I took a second to see what might be there. My wife likes Coach purses but buys hers at Goodwill stores.
