Happy September! ;D How many of us have tomorrow off for Labor Day, and is anybody doing anything extra that s train-related? Today I am doing some work on our travel trailer, we are taking it to a get-together in two weeks, and I need to get a few new parts installed. I should be able to find some time to do something on the layout--I hope.

Hello Terry and the rest of the Forum Folks! Had a bad news jolt last night when we called my Mom, who lives in Ill., to wish her a happy birthday. My sister had just passed from her battle with cancer. She's been staying with my parents for a bit over a year, so they could help her get to/from her treatments. Most of the family and the church priest was at the house when she passed, so that was a big help for my parents. We were aware that she wasn't doing well, but it wasn't quite expected so soon. She would have been 56 this month. The rains missed us yesterday but looked pretty heavy to the East & West of us. We heard continuous (true, rolling) thunder to our West for at least 10 minutes!!! Temps hit 95+ yesterday and may be more of the same today. Did manage to get the yard mowed in the morning, but had to go over it again with the lawn sweeper so I could get up all the wet, piles and clumps of grass. It looks a whole lot better, now. Have to get Adam to work shortly. If I get out to the trains this afternoon, I will look in the instruction book of my Empire Builder system and see how to purge it. Then I'll try those recaltriant locos and see what happens. Sadly, I'll be working Labor Day. If a holiday is celebrated on a weekday, I almost always will be working. Been that way since 1975. Terry, it sounds like you have a 2-axle trailer with self contained brown/black water tanks and a shower.(a/c too, maybe?) Not one of those "skimpy" pop-up units. ;D

Not one of those "skimpy" pop-up units. ;D No, it's a full-blown travel trailer. I work for the oldest dealership of the oldest travel trailer company in the world. The youngest person in the shop is 48, and the oldest person working there is 81.

I had a much needed jam session last night. Some friends felt that I've been pushing myself too hard and needed some stress release. They were right. We jammed for several hours, and since we were well out of town, the amps got cranked up big time. I'm taking some time for myself today after church to get into the train room.

Good morning, and happy Labor Day to all those American folks lucky enough to 1-have a job, and 2-have today off!
I got the trailer ready for our trip in a couple of weeks, our house and the layout survived some relatives dropping by yesterday, and I'll be doing some work on the layout today. Have a good one, even if you do have to work!

My days of working 40 hours are over and I accepted 24 hours a week two years ago. The good thing about this position is, I get every Monday and every Friday off. This allows me to have a four day weekend 52 weeks a year! Larry

Well, gents, count me as one of the lucky ones!! Was a quiet day, call-wise, at work, which allowed me to get some admin things done. Still more to do, but at least I was able to make some progress. Only had to deal with the cleaning lady and one of the Commissioners. Both were brief encounters. We did get a pop-up t-storm late yesterday afternoon, which dropped a fair amount of rain in a short period of time. None today, so far. I did look at my DB150 instruction book and there are NO instructions on purging, other than it telling me that the manner in which I shut down the system, "purges" loco addresses, however it does remember consists, unless I "un"-consist a set of locos. The manner in which those engines "act" with the surging, is as if there is some binding in the mechanism. The locos do "surge" and it isn't just on curves, as it happens on straight sections too. It also happens with the engine running light, with 1 or 2 cars or when pulling a string of cars. It's just odd that if happened with these two at about the same time. I didn't get a chance to run the long time shelf sitter to see if the problem is "solved" with it's surging.

Steve, feel free to start a Thursday proto photo and a Sunday or Weekend photo thread here in the Crew Lounge. It is allowed, but there haven't been a lot of contributors. If we keep trying, we can probably get more participation. My photo taking and uploading has been very sparse for many months, due to working far more than usual. Please give it a go and I'll try to get some pics loaded for posting. I have a lot that I need to transfer to my new, external hard drive.

Good Evening to all the Forum Folks.
Another hot & humid day with no rains in the area. Was generally a quiet day with one early morning disturbance call that took me an hour to handle from start to finish. Managed to make more progress on the admin front, but am stalled on several items, due to things beyond my control. Didn't get to the trains last night, but plan on wandering out there for a bit this evening. I have a new, 1 terrabyte, external hard drive that I plan to use to store the pics currently located on our tower computer. There are over 18,000 pics on it that I plan to remove and hope that speeds it up a bit for general browsing usage. I can't believe we have 3 laptops and the tower computer in this house, now. LD has Adam's older, computer, now that he bought himself a new laptop. I have a laptop with a 17" screen so I can actually read the thing with a larger font size.
I have no taxi/Asst. driver duties tonight or tomorrow night, so a light supper and glass or two of red wine is in order.
Hope that everyone had a good day.

Steve
First, welcome to the forum. The timing for starting a forum was rather off, so we haven't pushed much this summer. Now that we're getting into the more hobby busy time of year, things such as Thursday proto and SNFF will pick up again.

I sort of put pictures in some times to show what I saw that day. I did work on an American Flyer 4-4-0 that my Grand kids found someplace. After I cleaned up the wheels and contacts, it did actually run which surprised me. I also cleaned my desk and ran a UP 4-8-8-4 on a test track. It sounds really great. Larry

Good evening to all the Forum Folks
Still hot & humid in southeastern NC. No rains here, but some parts of the state have seen a bit over the past few days. Managed to get out for a while last night and run a couple trains, plus a bit of switching.
Work was OK. Making progress on the Admin front, but being slowed a good bit helping the Chamber of Commerce president get a route finalized for the 5K run/walk they're having on the morning of Oct. 6th. That will kick off a FULL day of activities and events, to include a parade, beer/wine garden, 2 live bands, a street dance and other activities. They are trying to revive the Poultry Jubilee which was an annual event some years before I came to work here. I will need assistance from the surrounding local agencies, NC Highway Patrol and the Sheriff's Deputies. It's driving the Chamber and me crazy!! As long as no one gets hurt and folks have a good time, it will have been worth all the planning.
Hope everyone had a good day.

The past several days have had a good bit of rain. While we needed the rain, we had much less than a half inch of rain total for June and July, it would have been nice to get several smaller showers that might actually soak in and help. I'll be mowing the lawn Friday.
In the "It had to happen" department, I got a letter in the mail yesterday. The fact I got the letter isn't special, I get mail almost daily. It also wasn't that it was a pre-registration form for voting, I've gotten them before. It wasn't even that it was for a former resident of this house, I've even gotten THEM before. What was pretty jaw-dropping was that it was for a person that died 18 years ago, and hadn't lived here for ten years before that!
About as political as I'm going to get here is to suggest that if you don't like the way your current politicians are handling things, the only way to change it is to get out and vote for the other candidate. If you think your current politicians are doing a great job, get out and vote, so they don't get voted out. You can't be heard if you don't vote.

I woke up at about 6 AM to the sound of rain and possible light hail which lasted about five minutes. A tropical storm in the Pacific sent some rain into Northern California for a short time this morning.
I tested some model trains yesterday on a test track to verify some of the CV's and functions. Larry

Good Afternoon to all the Forum Folks.
Long day at work today. Still have over an hour left. I hope it stays uneventful. A quick check of the RADAR shows a large line of hefty storms East & West of Raleigh and into Va. Not sure if anything will materialzie around here. It's certainly hot & humid enough, just nothing to get 'em going, I guess. Ran a couple trains again last night for a good bit. Will try to do some more this evening, unless I can get my son to pry his fingers off his video game controller long enough so that he can show me how to load all those pics onto the external hard drive I have.
Hope everyone had a good day.

We are coming up on the end of another fun-filled work week. What's everyone doing to their trains this weekend? I don't think I will have much time for them, as I will be fixing the chimney in my house, dropping off my truck at the body shop for some repairs, mowing the lawn, and having guests from out of town. Other than that, I'm not doing much this weekend.

Good Evening Terry and the rest of the Forum Folks.
I'm hoping to get out back and run some trains, maybe tear into one of those MP-15DC's, possibly run the mower over the grass.
Still hot & humid down this way, but all the t-storms and rains are SE of us, along the sea breeze. We did get a brief, light, t-storm just after dark, last night. The sky was overcast and foggy this morning, till after 10:00. Didn't get to the trains as I did download those pics. Over 18,000 of 'em!! It is taking me forever to get them deleted off the tower, now. I have to re-arrange some of them and make up some new/separate files on the external drive. Time permitting. Have to get Adam from work soon, then I'll kick back and do???
Hope that everyone had a good day.

If you have moved all your photos off the tower, removing them is easy. Simply open the "pictures" folder, click "organize", then "select all" then "delete". At that point, it's adios, pictures.

Terry, I've been doing that, but I have 2 files with over 6000 pics each. Trying to delete them from the Kodak Easy Share program is like watching a glacier move. It's taking up to an hour or better at times. I've gotten to the point of just trying to delete a couple hundred at a time, during commercials, etc. I'm almost done, though. Had good news this evening. My Capt. called me as she has made an arrest in an armed robbery we had about 2 months ago and in an attempted break in to a pharmacy. He's in jail on a $75,000 bond. Also another arrest was made on a real sicko we have living in Town. He was arrested on our warrants and has a $100,000 bond. I'm going to celebrate with a glass of wine, go on-line and see if I can find the theme song for the TV show, COPS. ;D

Good Morning Terry and the rest of the forum Folks.
Thanks for the link, Terry. I've never seen the video before.
No train time last night. Hope to get out back for a while, today.
I finally got all the pics deleted from the tower. ;D
Hope that everyone has a good day.
