Cute, mourning the steam passenger trains of 60 plus years ago. I guess the bard doesn't count those NS trains that rolls by my house as being trains?

Cute, mourning the steam passenger trains of 60 plus years ago. I guess the bard doesn't count those NS trains that rolls by my house as being trains? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Just missin' that locomotion steam sound; along with those fantastic whistles. (albeit), a Hooter Horn is great too! We had a 2-6-2 Prairie. here in Mount Dora, Florida. The same loco that was featured in the movie "ROSEWOOD." They were pulling several old heavyweight Pullman passenger cars, in excursion service, & burned-out several rolling bearings. (IIRC). They had just finished replacing the heater tubes in the boiler, among other renovations, and CSX (sponsor) decided those in charge (leasing), and running the loco, should foot the bill for the repairs. I don't think they ever reached an agreement, and gone was that great little steam loco. Also, would you believe that MANY residents complained, about the steam whistle, during the fan trips! These were typically one day a week, on a Sunday. (Just blowin' two-longs a short, and a long, at grade crossings here, as per regs!). Yep...those white posts, with the black "W" <GROAN!> Water was supplied (often), via tank wagon truck. SONG HERE=====> ('scuse-me), while I do a little cross-tie walkin'... Happy Railroading! AL

"ROSEWOOD" (ca. 1997), was filmed approximately twelve miles from my home. The location was in unincorporated Lake County, Florida. just north of State Road 44, west of Deland, Florida. (also), Sanford, Florida. The little Prairie 2-6-2, can be seen, at the beginning of this movie trailer. It had been converted to an oil burner. The entire town was constructed for the movie, and the homes that weren't burned, were sold, and a few can be seen, to the west of the movie location, just off highway 44, still to this day... Al, Merle Haggard recorded a very nice train song album and I like that song about "No More Trains To Ride" that is about hobos.
Talking about steam engines back in the day women would complain that the smoke from locomotives was dirtying their clean laundry has it dried on the clothes line. Railroads tighten down on the no smoke rule and would have ARF to take photos of any violations so, anybody trackside with a camera became suspect.
The real cause of the smoke wasn't the fireman it was the coal that the railroads used since it was a cheap grade with slate in it. Now a fireman could smoke it up by tossing a shovel full of sand into the firebox to clean the flues.

A nifty bit-o'-info... "S-A-L-U-T-E!" to Charles Bronson. (M.W.A.C. 1958-1960) Happy Railroading! AL

Adams did "The Rebel" from 59-61, and "Saints and Sinners" in 62-63. He played an investigative reporter in "Saints." Did lots of movies and many guest spots in other series.

Bronson - in "M.W.A.C." Don't forget our man Darrin McGavin, as Kolchak "THE NIGHT STALKER." But, Nobody ever believed him! Not to worry, as he took a "Quantum Leap" from 1974, back-in-time - to become a "Fearless Furnace Fighter" who drove a 1937 Oldsmobile 4-door sedan, in 1940 Indiana. And... would win that "Leg Lamp" that glowed in the window: "Why...it's a "Major Award!" The Night Stalker HERE======> Johnny Yuma, Schwartz, Scut Farkiss, Flick, & "The Rebel"...Ralphie Cheers! AL
