I need help with a track plan for a mountain layout that is 8' by 30" opening into 36" by 4' It is going to be a back drop to a G scale mountain railroad with the N scale running in the valley behind the G Scale, sort of as a background operation with both running. The N Scale must cross several rivers, have a small town with an engine terminal including a 75' turn table. The time period is the 1860's to 1880's. This is a mountain valley in the background of the G scale. Try as I might I keep coming up with the traditional oval or dog bone - I guess my creativity has left me and all the on line track plans aren't any better - Thank You in advance!

I don't know what to tell you. It's not my place to tell you what to do. Allow me to make a suggestion.
Seems you are working with a rather small space for G scale. You'd do better in a garden setting or out in the garage around the walls.
This might work: You can use a divider aka backdrop down the middle of the table layout. This will highlight only half the layout at a time. This will help you hide the obvious loopity loop.
Personally, I'd be looking at a shelf type layout or around the room layout.

BarstowRick,
The G Scale layout is 45' by 31', the mountain valley in the background for the N Scale to run is 8' by 30" expanding to an additional 4' by 36".
Thank you for your suggestions. - John

Could you post some pictures? Not only would this help us to be able to visualize what you have to work with, but it also would be cool to look at. There's also a track planning thread in the crew lounge section that would get you more attention, as everybody will see it. You might want to try there.

John, When I read that what you wrote, first entry to this thread, I read, the layout, "Is 8' by 30" opening into 36" by 4' ", I read 8' x 3' sorry if I misread.
Now that I know what you are working with, "The G Scale layout is 45' by 31', the mountain valley in the background for the N Scale to run is 8' by 30" expanding to an additional 4' by 36".
How about trying a divider down the middle of the layout?

Some confusion, the N Scale is part of the G Scale Layout, like background it is intended to depict the G Scale trains as if they were running in a distant valley (buildings and trees etc. they get smaller as they get further away in the background), it is not 2 separate layouts, but 1. I hope that helps - Thanks again - John.
