I'd love to subscribe to Diesel Era, but their markup for International subscriptions is just crazy. I guess they're mailing out these copies themselves, whereas they should be using another company to do this. Pitney Bowes is the name of the company on the mailing label when I get my copy of Model Railroader.
For comparison:
Model Railroader: US 1 year $43, International $63 Railroad Model Craftsman: US 1 year $44, International $69 Diesel Era: US 1 year $42, International $120
And MR is even cheaper when you subscribe for several years at a time and/or use one of their "special offers".
PS I subscribe to Model Railroader for the simple reason that single copies at the local newsstand cost like $12 - $14. It's cheaper for me to subscribe for 3 years and only read every third or fourth issue. There are still some interesting articles, even if the magazine as a whole has a lot of dumbed-down content. And now a buddy here wants to read them after me and go halves on the subscription. Win-win for us.
