I think we need some Sunday Photo Fun guys! I have to wait for the sun to burn away a pretty thick marine layer of clouds that drifted in off the Pacific over night before I could go shoot this morning. Have a great week guys! Best, Mark I'll start with a shot from Nick Molo's website of the model, out of the box resplendent in Wabash blue. Next is a great shot from photographer Chris Butts of a slightly earlier car, his pic is from the mid '80s, note the high ladder, brake wheel and friction bearing trucks, other than the re-weight, ACI, COTS and U-1 stencils it's seen no love from the N&W. Here's my attempt to recreate this '60 era RBL, the blue was lightly faded by airbrushing Dullcote with white TCP added, followed by successive layers of chalks and colored pencil.

Wow! Great job Mark,
Excellent weathering! The fading and the grime build up looks great!

Very nice model. Terrific details and weathering. It would be great if you could do thread on your building process.

Jim, I used the article in MR Feb 2001. It was for a O scale model, but it had all of the dimensions and a great set of drawings. I wasn't on the net at the time, so I didn't have any photos to use. There are many out there now. GATX has a repair facility about 60 miles from my home in Waycross, Ga. and they use a retired Bromine car for their sign.

Finished a couple of cars this week: Branchline 40' 1944 AAR Boxcar kit, added roof hatches at each end of the car, replaced the roofwalk with a Plano Morton style roofwalk, and A-Line Sill Steps in place of the plastic ones. Painted the car with Scalecoat IC Orange and lettered with Dan Kohlbergs decals. Car was built in 1961 and one of 90 modified in 1970 with the roof hatches and roofwalk in for hauling salt, the ICG only expected the cars to last 5 years in that service but 5 cars made it to the 1980 ORER. Red Caboose Coil Flat painted with Scalecoat II ICG Orange and Black Paint and then lettered with Dan Kohlbergs decals. Car was a new build in 1975. Thanks for looking! Rick Jesionowski

Some additional SDP35 paint work has been completed along with building four Exactrail 50' Deck Girder bridges. The bridges will be used on a friend's modern CSX layout as approach bridges for a larger 200' bridge. Additional photos and details can be found on my blog at georgiarailroad.blogspot.com/

Great looking models guys. Justin, I checked out your blog, very well done. I still can't give the thumbs up, but if I could every one would get one.

Couple pics of a 50 car BNSF coal train I had running with five MRL SD70ACes on pulling duty at the La Mesa Model Railroad Club in San Diego, CA last week. Yeah It's Tehachapi, CA and it's technically a 1950s era layout, but that wide open grassland scenery in unmatched on the west coast. Mr. MRL Passing Allard Siding. Thanks for the compliments Brian and Bobby! I appreciate hearing that others are enjoying seeing the work and information on my blog. It gives me a break from writing articles for the ACL & SAL Historical Society. The SDP35 will become a full article once I get a chance to wrap up the final detail work and decaling. Not enough hours in the day unfortunately. Thanks again for the nod of recognition.
