These are now up at www.atlasrr.com . Apparently they were posted last Friday. The Production Schedule there still shows them as estimated to arrive in the third quarter of this year. Fourth quarter arrival would be more plausible. We can hope the schedule will be updated soon.

Looks like they've done a bit off RR specific detailing...

I got a tad excited when I seen the Blue& White GP38 since I thought it was a GATX unit and it turn out to be a BNSF unit.
I recently acquired a used Trainman GP38-2 for its drive..I'm going to repower Athearn's GATX GP38-2 and add DCC/Sound. I would like a second GATX GP38 but, I'm in no hurry to buy one...

I've always loved the Maryland Midland scheme (being from Maryland originally). I'm kind of surprised they've offering that one. I'm not sure how much demand there is for that shortline. Hopefully it won't get cancelled.

I guess I've only got a little longer to milk this model of BNSF 2044 I made a few years ago: Looks like the Atlas model has the whole cab side the lighter patched blue, even though it should only be a section under the cab windows, smaller than the new numbers.

Looks like the Smurfs showed up late 2009/early 2010. The three Atlas chose to offer don't seem to have been repainted yet.

Even the NS ones are close with a K5LA horn, and 4 exhaust stacks per the prototype altho the roof AC isn't all that. Nice to see Atlas step up a little.

Too bad Atlas still hasn't tooled them to have ditch lights installed per prototype and us modelers having to install them ourselves. I got a WC 40 on pre-order and might be getting an NS rebuilt 38 as well.

As long as not all (say) CSX and CSX come equipped since there was CSX,NS,WC and other pre ditch light roads before ditch lights came standard in the late 90s.. Recall some of us models the pre "ditch light era". I have two HH NS(none nag head) GP38s I will use on my '94/95 era ISL as well two CSX bc GP38-2s I plan on using for that era. Atlas would need to offer these units with or without ditch lights and would need to tool the frames accordingly..

Waiting forever for stuff to finally be available to buy is no fun. 🙂

While nothing in this run strikes my fancy, this gives me hope that the next runs of GP38s and GP40s (and hopefully everything else in general) will have more road specific details as well.

And wrong MU connector, missing loudspeaker, wrong class lights, wrong coupler lift bars. I stopped after that. Easy fixes though except class lights which takes drilling and matching paint. Brighter yellow on the prototype but lighting may be a factor.

They look pretty good. I think Atlas should fix their 3600 gallon fuel tanks and remove the "side walls"...but that would involve spending a little cash on tooling. They also need to get rid of those "sausage link" air tanks and replace them with something that looks like an air tank on an EMD.
The remaining issue of the step wells...they need to fix those to make them the proper depth. They are too shallow for EMD steps. I would have rather had them made into solid steps...with the correct dimensions, rather than have a poor rendering of the steps with see through tooling.
I'm sure we'd see a step set for the Atlas GP38/40 if they were the correct depth.
