Shoot. I knew a place that had those for the past six years and as recent as last spring. They finally put them on sale and have cleared out most of the remainder of their Athearn 40' trailers. They were my go-to source for the OOP Athearn Fruehauf trailers and ext post.
Definitely a treasure hunt now unless Athearn re-runs them. Good news is Athearn has started re-running Ext Post trailers so hopefully they will re-run those.
BTW, I did some research of the Ext Post trailer road names including C&IE, L&N, and MP for my late 1970's focus and was told those were too early so I passed on them. Apparently they are more 1960's era trailers. That shop also had Mushroom, Branch and Fredrickson and was told they were unlikely to have been seen in the Colorado-Utah area. But, I don't know how accurate that information really was.

The trucking carriers operated under ICC authority in specific markets, so you can find out reasonably accurately whether you'd see one of those carriers. Branch definitely didn't go that far west. I don't remember Mushroom or Fredrickson, except that they didn't operate in the Midwest so I never bought them. On the other hand, I definitely needed the Smith Transfer truck from Athearn, and it took about 4 years of hunting on ebay to finally get one.
Hank's Truck Pictures is a great go-to website, but there's quite a bit on Wikipedia for trucking companies.
The big problem with truck models is that we need many more non-railroad paint schemes but manufacturers don't really like to crank them out.

I've known about Hank's Truck Picture for some years; great site. As for non-railroad paint schemes, Trainworx second run of 40' corrugated trailers will include non-railroad schemes including Alpha Beta, City Market, Sunkist, Bud, and Kroger. These are good for 1960's thru early 1980's. While I don't follow the modern era I've noticed a lot of non-railroad long trailers offered. Perhaps the hole is the early 1980's thru 1990's.
