For people looking for Digitrax alternatives: A club member here just bought a Digikeijs DR5000 multi-protocol command station. Among the protocols it supports is Loconet for boosters and throttles. I have tested my Loconet throttles (UT4 and original Zephyr DCS 50 in throttle/booster mode) and it works, even with Digitrax's command-station-based consisting. It also has built in WiFi, and I tested it with the Roco Z21 app on my iPhone. It's very cheap: he got it for about $160 shipped.

Digitrax just released a DCS52, which is an upgrade to the base starter system. This one has a screen. For anyone *cough*like myself* who has money invested in Digitrax, it might be worth waiting to see what the next generation systems/throttles from Digitrax look like before jumping ship. I'm waiting until the LocoNet patent expires, personally, to see who ends up with the most compatible implementation.

My understanding, is that Loconet, is already in the ESu Cab Control, and once the Digitrax patent is up, a firmware upgrade will enable Loconet. Will be able to use the digitrax signal system, throttles, and hopefully, my Digitrax boosters. By the way, I purchased the Cab Control, no regrets, interfaces to JMRI very easily. ESU now has a Loconet interface for the ECoS command station. ESU L.Net ConverterThe L.Net connection on the Cab Control command station is likely the same but not activated yet because of the patent issue.

Strange; the Digikeijs system has its Loconet ports active. When does the patent expire?
