Since we don't get many posts to the weekend update threads, instead of starting a new thread every week, perhaps we should have a perpetual thread with no date. Just a thought. Finally got around to stuffing this auto rack. Maybe someday I'll get around to lowering the car and super detailing it but for now it's good to go. And so it wouldn't cost me an arm and a leg, I made a RTV mold and cast the cars for the lower levels of the rack. The top level has the nicely detailed originals. While it was cheaper, it does take a lot of time to paint the autos. Left to right: Original CMW 1967 Ford; my painted resin copy; unpainted resin copy fresh out of the mold.

A closeup view of the CB&Q #5506 O-4 Mikado on the engineers side of the locomotive showing all the detail parts. The CB&Q Mikado is slowly climbing the long 1 1/2% grade east of San Marino in the Monterrey Mountains. A lateral view of the CB&Q #5506 O-4 Mikado on the fireman's side of the locomotive making the slow climb down the long grade of the mainline in the Monterrey Mountains. I don't have a picture to post but for me this was a big weekend. Without space for a layout I have been scratching my head as to what I could do. I did build a timesaver but wanted something more. I got the idea to use one of the church's unused Sunday school rooms to build a layout in. Nothing much, just a 4x8 that can be moved when I move. Yesterday, I asked the church's session members and they OK'd my request. Now that I have real estate I can start making turnouts for the layout. Hope to be laying track just after Christmas.

I've been working on a Milwaukee Road Atlas RS3. I have already modified the body to phase III, moved the horns and added numberboards. Bought some blunt truck sideframes from Shapeways that fit the Life-Like switcher. Surprisingly they seem to work under the Atlas mechanism. I had to do some trimming on the inside of the sideframes as they are a little too tight on the trucks. I think I can paint them now.

Since this is the smallest scale on this forum I thought I would post a pic of something smaller that is my current project. This is my Stony Smith designed Shapeways produced Z scale extended vision caboose. It is printed in FUD and the only spots that needed smoothing were the sides of the cupola and the area directly below that.It took all of 5 minutes to get It ready for paint.(Krylon Fusion "Red Pepper" from a rattle can).Trucks are Full Throttle and the couplers will be too. The boose will most likely end up lettered for my Grande Valley Railway.

Painted and decaled this MT heavyweight RPO. Had to blank out one window on each side to accomodate the lettering. There is a photo of this car in the Milwaukee Road color guide to freight and passenger cars Volume 1 page 13.

I think this is becoming my favorite thread. And it may not look like it but Z scale is just N scale turned on its side. Doug

Doug Gosha, He of the nice guy Gosha's, out of the Atlas Forum. Never a bad word did he say....always supportive of others. What was that phrase the Oreo guy used to say....."Encourage, don't discourage"? You carry forward a good record Doug. From the Moose people..... ...yes, N scale.... Namasta

Skip! Good to see you here and thanks for the very kind words. I may not be quite so worthy as I'm sure a few bad words have slipped through my fingers into the keyboard but usually in response to bad words from other keyboards. That reminds me. I wonder where Jeff is. He registered in July but hasn't posted. Boy, you guys do nice work. My new layout has no scenery yet. Just buildings and trains. I have my work cut out for me. Doug

I've been wanting to do this CGW coach ever since Fox Valley Models came out with their 1935 Hiawatha coaches.

For those who don't think that you can get good detail in N scale, they need to come here and see the excellent artistry that is being performed.

I guess that I should amend my last statement to include Z scale. Catt, that is amazing. My wife has informed me that I need to get busy with the second level on our layout. She's wanting to run her passenger trains, and wants someplace for them to go.

That reminds me. I wonder where Jeff is. He registered in July but hasn't posted. Doug Doug, I don't know where he is. I just know he would be trying to convince us that he eats more than just Oreo's and milk... ...yeah, right..... Let's just hold him in our hearts and hope he is ok. And not alone in this Christmas Season. Like I said...you're a good man Doug. Skip

If it's Jeff Sauer you mean, he's busy downsizing his accumulation over on that famous Internet Auction Site. I've picked up a few cars from him. I think he's doing fine. Meanwhile, here's an "interchange car" I sent to Catt this week... This is the first time I've used the Micro-Scale Gothic Lettering for the reporting marks. I'm running out of New York Central roadnames, which is what I prefer (I use the Ws, Ns and Ys), and Micro-Scale changed the decal sheet to have a lot fewer copies of the roadname. So we adapt as necessary...

Yes George, Jeff Sauer. Thank you very much for the good news that he is probably OK. I'm pretty sure I have his email address and I will have to tell him to post on here and be sure to include his signature signature (the Oreos and milk). So, Skip, I wonder if he puts banana slices on the Oreos. Doug
