Why the strange font that is so hard to read? Sort of like in your Kool-Ade logo...

I would never go to Utah on purpose.

I would never go to Utah on purpose. Why is that? To me, it is a beautiful state, besides it is where one of two preserved GE turbines is located.

I've driven through it a number of times and it is a beautiful state. The only reason I would go to Utah would be to attend my ex's funeral. That isn't the fault of the state or its contents, just circumstances.

For a 2-month old (but in depth) Big Boy update, watch:
It's Ed Dickens, head of the UP's Steam Heritage operation, giving a talk at a train show. He goes into detail on where they're at and what they're doing with 4014.

Paul--
I would like to go. Always wanted to see a big steamer run and never have...unless you count NKP 765 drifting through Enola Yard quietly a couple years ago...but it's just not "big enough" by comparison. Always wanted to see 3985 with Dad, but never had the time off or money to get there. Now he's too old to travel. He would have seen lots of articulateds while growing up in Butler, PA, but was more interested in counting the cars (trains frequently ran 160 cars+ of iron ore one way and/or coal the other). He was there when Bessemer and Lake Erie was running 3 monster 2-10-4's on one train...but just doesn't remember them...was young. They would have quietly vanished while he was getting ready to go off to college. B&O EM-1'a and 2-8-8-0's did run in the Butler, PA area.

FPA-4, The biggest steam engine I've ever seen operating is the CN 2-8-2 at Steamtown, tho' the Western Maryland Scenic 2-8-0 is a close second (and actually has more tractive effort).
Most of my other live steam experience has been with smaller engines like the ex-Chinese Mike at Essex (CT) and the small 2-8-2 and 2-6-2 they have there. Or with the Mt. Washington Cog or the various narrow gauge RR's around New England (all 2-footers). And I suppose you could also count the 7.5" gauge live steam club in Holliston, MA...
Seeing a big engine would be a treat, but they never come to New England. I think the last big steamer to run in New England was the Reading T-1 on the American Freedom Train in 1976.

I guess i’m spoiled. I live within a short drive of 1225 have ridden behind it a time or two, photographed it many times. Rode a Chessie Steam Spl in 70s from Grand Rapids to Plymouth and back and my last steam was riding behind 765 when 1225 was down for a year. Super Chief/El Cap behind War Bonnet Fs after Amtrak took over but before they gave up the name. 1225 sat next to the football stadium at Michigan State when I was a freshman. 1966 Caught Freedom Train #1 by chance as it was sent solo to the West due to some clearance or weight issues in mid Michigan. 4449 a few years ago when it came to Steam Fest in Owosso. Maybe i’m off a bit but I’d rather see the Challenger. I have pics but this isn’t my thread and might get me another hand slap.
