Will this decoder work or do I need the 54615?

If you're asking if a 21 pin Lokpilot decoder will work in it, yes. You need to unplug the jumper, and install the Lokpilot.

The 54614 will operate multiple protocols (DCC, Selectrix,Marklin, etc.) where-as the 54615 will be for DCC only. If there is a difference in price, there's no point paying extra for all the different protocols that you don't need .... unless of course you ARE in Europe. ;-)

Thanks. Just asking because I have two 614's on hand and they would not work in a Scale Trains Tier IV. Needed the 615 for that.

That's odd .... both are identical except for the 64614 which is multi-protocol ((MM/DCC/SX). Perhaps you needed to select the DCC protocol ?

It was a 53614 v3 that would not work in the Tier IV. Some of the light functions would not work, needed the 54615 v4 for that.

You are correct .... not sure what I was looking at. (?) I know the Scales Trains engines must use V4.0 for both sound and non-sound to work correctly.

Just looked at the instruction sheet from my Bowser SD40-2 and they recommend the 53614. DOH!
