I managed to continue work on some projects, start up a new one and finish a couple. ![](http://i765.photobucket.com/albums/xx292/dti406/In%20Progress/P1010005_16_zpsryu37dgn.jpg) Still working on that Canadian Grain Covered Hopper, attaching the roof walk the walk on the left side of the picture is attached and I am working to the right, and I am using liquid plastic cement on this per Plano's instructions, hard to believe it works as well as it does. Starting on an Intermountain PS1 50' Combo Door Boxcar kit, have attached extended coupler pockets to represent end of the car cushioning. ![](http://i765.photobucket.com/albums/xx292/dti406/Covered%20Hopper/P1010007_9_zpsfr53keli.jpg) Kadee PS 2003CF Covered Hopper painted with Scalecoat II UP Hopper Gray paint and lettered with Herald King Decals. Car was built in 1956 and this is a mid 60's repaint with added COTS and ACI Plates. Car was used in Cement, Sand, Potash or Talc Service where needed. ![](http://i765.photobucket.com/albums/xx292/dti406/Box%20Cars/P1010006_14_zpsgw9uymtp.jpg) Branchline 50' AAR Boxcar Kit, used the Despatch Roof and Ends to more represent the NYC Despatch Shops built car. Painted with Scalecoat II Boxcar Red and lettered with Greg Komar's Decals. Car was built in 1956 and the Early Bird Service logo designated the car for 29 hour service between New York and Chicago in full car loads, the Pacemaker Service was for lcl loads. This service went away when the Flexivans came on the scene. Thanks for looking! Rick Jesionowski

Jim--your models are astounding! Very impressive. Rock--I am amazed at your prolific modeling. Every week you show us some great pictures of great models. I am looking forward seeing that Canadian grain hopper completed!

I am not a master or anything, but was after "layout quality" cars. While not 100% perfect, I am happy with them. Since I got married in 2001, I have been collecting freight car kits. Mostly, I tried to match my purchases with my photo collection, of SP related photos I took in the early 90s. It wasn't until 3 years ago that I started to pull them out and build them. Prior to that, I had always concentrated on a layout. Often times I discovered that the kit that I bought and thought was a match was not... ANd as I discovered, stripping an undecorated kit and repainting it into the scheme you really want is easier said then done. I also collected undec kits whenever I saw them for sale, because who knows when I would see them again. For 2017, my "project" was to do about 15 UPFE/SPFE cars, based on the IM R-70-20 and Red Caboose R-70-15s. I originally planned on two R-70-15s and 4 or 5 R-70-20s. I am pretty much done, but only got around to uploading photos now. Anyways, from my photo collection, I only had 1 UPFE car. I ended up with 4. This was the original decorated Red Caboose "Ready to Run. I originally intended to build it into an SPFE car, but it was not a match. So decided to match it to something that I could have seen in 1993-94.... From what I could find, SPFE had scrapped their R-70-15s by then... And the model had a "keystone" underframe, so I looked for UPFE This project ended up being more then I bargained for, and long story short, I ended up repainting it and having to use some extra parts from an undec kit. The RTR model was with roof walks, and I had to plug the roof walk holes and install the old roof walk supports. Didnt come out as nice as I would have liked, but looks decent. Weathering was mostly oils, with some premade Vallejo oil based washes. ![](http://www.ak47catalog.com/home_files/UPFE1.jpg) This next one was a ready to run Intermountain R-70-21. I figured I would remark it to SPFE, but with the keystone underframe and class, decided to just remark it UPFE instead. This one was mostly factory, with the exception of some Microscale decals. Mostly to convert it from a "PFE" to a "UPFE". Weathering was artist oils. The roof, I based on another photo that seemed to match what I could see from the side view. ![](http://www.ak47catalog.com/home_files/UPFE2.jpg) After starting so many, I decided I wanted a full UPFE car and ordered a factory Intermountain RTR model; I used "stills" that I took from a Pentrex video filmed in 1994 for my guides; All the photos I could find online were either to early, or to clean. I wanted it to contrast with another yellow UPFE reefer I did. Car is factory, and weathered with artist oils. I used the vallejo oil wash to lighten the UPFE shield a little bit. ![](http://www.ak47catalog.com/home_files/UPFE3.jpg) I model the Southern Pacific, so my main focus was SPFE cars. This car was built from an Undecorated Red Caboose R-70-15 kit. The undec kit does have the proper doors for the -17/18/19, but not the proper roof. The kit is for a car that had it's roofwalks removed. The later cars never had them. So I had to plug the slots in the roof and well as modify the ladders. The Microscale decals were not a 100% match, but close enough. I also had to make a couple changes to the weathering to hide errors. Car was weathered with artist oils. ![](http://www.ak47catalog.com/home_files/SPFE4.jpg) SPFE 457095 is a R-70-20. My car was built from an undecorated Intermountain R-70-20. Weathering was artist oils. ![](http://www.ak47catalog.com/home_files/SPFE2.jpg) SPFE 457354 was also built from an undec kit. Weathering is also artist oils, but I also used some premade Vallejo wash for the color filter, and the white running paint. ![](http://www.ak47catalog.com/home_files/SPFE1.jpg) SPFE 459592, is a -24. There are some minor detail differences between the -24 class and the IM model with is a -20, but close enough. Also an undec kit, decaled, and done with artist oils. ![](http://www.ak47catalog.com/home_files/SPFE3.jpg)

Since I stopped lurking and started posting here: ![](https://s15.postimg.cc/3rrhb5n7d/20180728_180354.jpg) Just about finished up this LNE gon scratchbash for a friend. The prototype says I have some more grabs and stirrups to add yet. ![](https://s15.postimg.cc/44ivha0bf/20180729_141504.jpg) ![](https://s15.postimg.cc/7o4t75fwr/20180728_180852.jpg) ![](https://s15.postimg.cc/czjprueu3/20180728_180940.jpg) Threw some primer on some recent Shapeways prints to see how much sanding I'm gonna have to do. I need to get them finished up so I can show them with the prints as examples of what can be done with them. Also working on a KDTX A-frame car and some draft gear but I need to revise and re-print.

Well I finished Soo Line GP30 #702. 702 posing with 703. ![](http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q148/Jim_Becker68/Soo%20Line%20EMD%20GP30%20701/702%20amp%20703%20Finished%2007-29-18%2001_zpsgxgaeap9.jpg) Jim....looks like 703 has the "amber" lens, versus the accurate "yellow". Athearn had a bunch of those parts (ATHG68289) that were packaged with the wrong "amber" lens. I contacted Athearn and they shipped me the proper "yellow" ones.Bob

While I was on vacation, an order of Minuteman red shingles arrived at the house. I didn't waste much time before applying them to the model of Tower 106. ![](http://www.pbase.com/mecrharris/image/167884680/large.jpg) ![](http://www.pbase.com/mecrharris/image/167884682/large.jpg) They are self-adhesive and very easy to apply. Each set comes with ridge cap shingles, but since I had a hip roof to do I needed more than what came with it. I ended up just cutting individual shingles from a strip and laying them over the ridge. Since they're a heavyweight cardstock and not just thin bond paper, they don't bend or lay over the ridge very well. Despite that shortcoming, I'm pleased with the shingles. The red certainly changes the look of the tower for the better. Much closer to the real thing now. ![](http://www.pbase.com/mecrharris/image/159532212/large.jpg)

Stottman, for building a fleet these are fantastic, and this is exactly the kind of modeling that I really enjoy--you worked with what was available to build a really believable layout fleet.

Those UPFE and SPFE R-70s are sweet. The prototypes are some of my favorite cars to ride the rails. I'd love to see picture of all those cars in a long cut, they'd look even more impressive. Awesome!

Finished up EJ&E 301 - One of the few SW1200s painted yellow. ![](https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/934/43008466754_3ebccd9242_c.jpg) Also finished up NY Cross Harbor 21. ![](https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/861/43008466824_a3360d1fb3_c.jpg) With NW2 58 that I finished a few months ago. ![](https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/932/43008466644_1721fab27d_b.jpg) Been working on my fleet of 60' MSW service boxcars. Man, Auto Parts cars are one freight car nobody has really touched. This is one of the Con Cor POS cars, but unfortunately is accurate for several in the fleet. Being that I am building 30 some cars, not all will be detailed, so I am fine with it, at least for now. ![](https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/853/43008466554_c9d02f6789_c.jpg) Two of the nicer cars. I may do about 10 well detailed cars for photo opportunities. ![](https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/858/43008466384_002d517a9a_b.jpg) Those Plano Stanray cut bars are nice! I need to change the brakewheel yet, and add the Plano crossovers. ![](https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/856/43008466154_81ab143917_c.jpg) Walthers new "modern" crew set. FINALLY some modern, non euro figures! Need a hair of touchup on the faces, but I am really happy to see these. ![](https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/848/43008466574_486211413e_b.jpg)

Got those last little bits on IAIS 6988 ![](https://farm1.staticflickr.com/942/43677753632_199da8213d_c.jpg) The official Minnesota Department of Public Service scale is right next to the Minnesota Commercial roundhouse, so I decided I needed to do models of their scale test cars MNWX 333 and MNWX 444 ![](https://farm1.staticflickr.com/935/41916521040_0b0e3d76c6_c.jpg)

12bridge, I'm not sure you should put 3 diesels on a carfloat like that. Don't want to flip the thing...
So what happened to the trash moving by box car? Diverted to Staten Island and the CSX container loading facility?

Diverted to Staten Island and the CSX container loading facility? Yeah...2 is about the most they ever did regularly.. Trash by boxcar moved from Brooklyn and Queens from around 1990-1998. It was a pretty bad idea, as the cars were not sealed, and it made a mess, as it was simply just in bales. That traffic dried up, and now everything goes by container.

ExactRail makes theirs available as a detail part: exactrail.com/collections/ho-scale-detail-parts/products/details-ladder-4-rungI just think it's a shame to go to all that effort and retain the chunky (Walthers?) ladders. The other car has much finer ladders as far as I can see.

The Shapeways things I do will be for sale after I do a test build so that any nasty surprises don't make it beyond me ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png) I finished detailing an ECW G26 recently to be a PC car, and I like to paint in multiple when I can. The G32C will be green too so that should keep things moving on the build.

No worries, Thanks for pointing it out, I didn't even realize they were separate parts, and milling them off is more then my work. I popped them off and have since sourced an alternative to the Exactrail ones.
