Might be worth $7 to find out.

The pin spacing and "mouth width" is fine. The problem with using any of these edge connectors on Tortoises is NOT the edge connectors, but the fact that Circuitron made and continue to make their PC board too short - in other words when you fit ANY of these edge connectors as they come, you can move the connector side to side, which allows the contacts in the edge connector to bridge two PS board strips. The connector slot is 1.406" long and the Circuitron PC board is 1.290" long. A difference of .116" The simple solution is to glue a .060" x .080" x .295" long piece of Evergreen styrene into each end of the slot, eliminating the end play. I use a small amount of Super glue. .060" Evergreen is typically .058" so the two pieces make the connector a snug fit. cheers Dave

Yes I agree with the .060 shim either side of the connector, works like a charm. With out the shims you are asking for trouble. I used a continuity tester and yes without the shims the contacts on Tortoise get bridged. Ordered those connectors we shall see how they work out for the price. Steve

I can tell you from experience that those bridged gaps are a pain in the rear to troubleshoot. Shims are your friend.

I can tell you from experience that those bridged gaps are a pain in the rear to troubleshoot. Shims are your friend. For sure do it right first time. Those shims could save you big time.I don't care how tight they go on, chances are rolling trains and working on benchwork here and there could shift them. I really am not keen on soldering to the Tortoise board though some guys do. So guys the weakest link in a Tortoise as I found out and had to take apart is the plastic tabs that hold the copper strips the tracers rub on. I have had two machines where they came off. Epoxy fixed them back on. By the way there are four corner screws to take machine apart PLUS ONE DEAD CENTRE covered by sticker. Very simple inside and pretty much fool proof. The tabs are iffy I think. I don't use the the switches just motor contacts though I believe many use switches to power frogs .Failures are few but I don't like the way those tabs are put on. I use the motor contacts for signal lights too. Of course throw wire upgraded to .032 wire, some use .037. I have with a brass tube sleeve over throw wire to stiffen it managed an 8 inch throw where benchwork was in the way. Steve
