First, may everyone and their families have a happy and safe holiday. Second, lets look at some trains. These are Great Northern heater cars #1-4. The models are Oriental Limited brass imports. #1 #2 #3 #4

Happy Holidays you guys! A change in my job (promotion and new location) has taken a little of my modeling time, it should get better after mid January or so, anyway here's a progress shot of a current project for my buddy's U.P. based layout. 2 of 3 F60GH's are put together, 4 M551 Sheridan light tanks and an M5 heavy wrecker will be loaded onto the cars. I still need one more truck to ride with the M5, and of course there's lots of tie downs to do yet. I've also finished this Atlas MP15 with the installation of a Z scale decoder and a little weathering, it's also to be used on my buddy's layout - kind of fun to just slip together a quick unit to leave on his layout.

I've been installing LEDs and decoders in my large fleet of half finished models the past few weeks. I'm a little closer with this SD40-2, but I still need to figure out what to do for the non-skid surface on the nose and I need to install some grabs. Otherwise, it's getting there.

The heater car reminds me of the cars used by the WP on the California Zephyr in it's last year or so.

Not much for the party at the moment, but here's a pair I finished a while ago. They're both Kaslo resin kits, with some extra details and Herald King decals, awaiting weathering. I'll wager mine will hold up just fine to the PWRS cars on arrival, and no one makes a model of the CN car yet. That's a shame as they make for nice models. Do I get points for Christmas colors?

Microscale offers a decal for the non-skid surface (87-440) or paint is an option. I've been installing LEDs and decoders in my large fleet of half finished models the past few weeks. Microscale offers a decal for the non-skid surface (87-440) or paint is an option. I just need the dark gray strip near the nose grab, not the entire top of the nose. I don't have a good top view to determine the measurement and placement of the strip. Those nose top decals are pretty handy, though.

You might try cutting a small piece of Microscale trim film, assuming they make something in an appropriate color.

Or airbrush any piece of clear decal film the correct color and cut it to shape. I've had success patching cars that way.
