All the TT and TTX versions sold out over night at MBK.
Anyone know when the GA 85' flat cars are due?

What the heck? I really need the MTTX cars, but Walthers has been essentially worthless at letting us know when these would be coming. I can't even find it on the Walthers website now. That part number is vaporware

I added both HTTX cars to my cart yesterday, then got distracted. When I checked again around 9pm they were sold out.

I wasn't sure if the TT versions are good for the late 70s so didn't order.
We're the white ATSF in captive service?

Grrr....everything said April delivery. Just scrambled to find a pair, and best I could do was two of the same road number. And MTTX is happily discontinued. Why would you tool up a model and then make it impossible to purchase?
But of course, this is the same company that couldn't understand why it was a bonehead decision to make 1000 RPO cars in Amtrak Phase IV.

Notice the artwork shows a wheel dot. A small fleet of these was dedicated first to Boeing Vertol and then to Budd for delivery of CTA L cars between 1978 and 1987. A few were even running in the red scheme in that service. Yeah, it's only Walthers Mainline, but when someone makes the specific prototype I need, that's what I'd like to be able to start with. With good core dimensions you know we can always add details.

Well slow freight, as the words of the Pink Floyd song:
Here today, gone tomorrow.
or
Here yesterday, gone today.
Gotta love Walthers.

Hopefully they will be offered in TT red in a future run.
I tried some keyword searches for 85' flat on Walthers site but not found yet. Will try later when not on a smart phone. I am more interested in the General Americal piggy back flat cars.

Wow, really? I was waiting for them to show up on the site. Did Watchers just seriously underestimate the demand for these?
The G85s are showing Feb 2019, which is absolutely going to be extended.

I usually watch for models but for me anyway, Walthers new site is not user friendly. Even with the spoon fed link above the status of some cars as: Advanced Reservation Availability: Sold Out Expected: 28-Apr-2019 Others say discontinued including MTTX.

Well shoot. I was gonna retire some of my MDC/Athearn 60’ flats (I think BN is the only non-foobi. But I have an SP, SOO, and MTTX as well, granted I haven’t really checked them out)
Guess wait for another run. (Welcome to the machine, where if you’re not on it, you miss it)

Another Pink Floyd reference, this time from Wish You Were Here.
The MTTX version shows "discontinued" on Walthers "wonderful" and oh-so-user-friendly website.

@ rteusink, Walthers search needs to be improved because if you don't feed it the right keywords, you don't find. I tried three different keyword combos and failed. I bet this happens to all lot of hobbyists. You gotta admit, the new site needs improved. I bet they loose sales. If someone on a forums isn't there to feed with a spoon, funs over. There lies the problem.

If you look at his link, it says he typed in G85. How can you get any simpler than that? What could you improve upon? The page reads that you are thinking G85? @ rteusink, Walthers search needs to be improved because if you don't feed it the right keywords, you don't find. Have the search also work for things like 85' flat car for those who don't remember the G85 keyword which is probably a lot of people. A search shouldn't just work only if you don't forget to put in the correct designation. 😉

Walthers only makes what is preordered and then just a few more. Then, they don't show up on time and when they do... poof! They are gone. The 60' TBOX cars were due in August last year and just showed up last week!

The 60' TBOX cars were due in August last year and just showed up last week! That is the down side to relying on preorders only. They could sell way more models if the just had a clue which would be popular. That's the trick of course! Maybe I should be their adviser because usually what I want sells out first. 😑 Just look at the Atlas SP 5503 boxcars. They could have made twice as many and probably still sold out. Same with the BLMA Bx-166 and 177 box cars in the red Super Shock version.

Well, they closed the order desk for these almost as soon as they were announced, so I didn't even get a chance to preorder mine. That, and the speed with which they disappeared, would indicate that Walthers screwed the pooch and should have 1) left the order desk open and 2) made more. This would equal 3) more sales, which is what it takes to stay in business. But what do I know? I've only been a business owner...maybe I need to go to another hobby show so I can get a patronizing lecture from some employee of a hobby manufacturer about how it's a business.

I don’t even remember these being announced, their website has been such a pain in recent years that I try to avoid using it whenever possible, which is a real shame because the old one had a really handy search feature. I note that some of the paint scheme SKUs do not have the proper images attached.

I don’t even remember these being announced... I do. That's why I did a pre-order. They mail you a monthly flyer, which announces these things, if you've recently ordered. If you haven't, you can go here: www.walthers.comclick on "resources", and then "monthly flyer", and get the same thing online: www.walthers.com/monthly-flyerEd

Meh, I try to avoid such email related things, I’ve been known to go for weeks at a time without checking it, and I have such a high noise to signal ratio (spam) from Exactrail, Trainlife, Northern Tool, Ebay, etc. etc. that it would likely get deleted anyway.
I think the most recent thing I preordered from Walthers, which was through a dealer anyways, was the L&N Difco car.....maybe back around 2013 or so?

This forum. One missed announcement in almost seven years, I’d say that’s a decent track record.

These companies aren't like Google where search phases and words and learned on the fly and similar-words, misspellings, and such, are figured out on fly. That's millions of dollars. That being said, the search works fine for "85' flatcar" as that is what they are called. It doesn't work for "85' flat car". That's a whole other ballgame to begin equating flatcar and flat car. If you look at his link, it says he typed in G85. How can you get any simpler than that? What could you improve upon? Oh, that's easy. Here is how you could make it simpler. Anyway, for those who have them: I assume the deck is removable?
