The 11 mile Pennsy branch I am modeling has two lumbering operations that are online customers. Both are 42" gauge. Both were out of service by the time I am modeling, but their remnants were certainly around.
Are there any manufacturers of HOn42?
I'll be darned if I have been able to find any.
I can handlay some old, rotting track, but I sure would like to find some cars to put back in the brush!

I was in South Africa in 1984 and viewed the SAR, which is 42" gauge. You might consider looking for possible model track that simulates their prototype track if it is made. I don't know if anyone makes it but there is a major prototype in the world. Larry

I know some who model the 42" Newfoundland Railway lines use HOm track (same as TT, 12mm gauge). So there would be track, wheelsets and mechanisms available from the HOm crowd, but with a European flavor.
I'm pretty sure that those who model New Zealand railways also use HOm. Their stuff may have a more North American look, so you might want to root around there to see what turns up.
Or you could just go with HOn3 and ignore the 6" difference in gauge.

Los Angeles Railway (also Yellow Cars, LARy, latter Los Angeles Transit Lines) was a system of streetcars that operated in central Los Angeles, California and the immediate surrounding neighborhoods between 1901 and 1963. The track they ran on was 3 ft 6 inches (42 inches). Except for brass models of the trolley cars, I am unaware of any HO track gauged for 42 inches. Sounds like the only option would be to scratchbuild and handlay . . . . . or, you could try doing a search for "TT" scale track products and items. One site to check is www.ttscale.com for links to manufacturers. If I am doing my conversions correctly, the distance between railheads in HO would be approx 12.27 mm and that appears to be the max limit, according to the NMRA website, for TT scale track.
