I added another hopper to my 1989 era NS coal train. BLE leased 500 coal hoppers to NS in late 1988, including some former Rock Island cars in series 1015-1795 and 50000-51298. I based this model off a photo in Andrew Dow's book Norfolk and Western Coal Cars From 1881 to 1998, an invaluable resource for modeling this train. I started with a Bachmann Silver Series 100 ton hopper. I replaced the horrible trucks and wheels with Walthers trucks and Tangent wheels. The couplers are Sergent compatible dummy Glatzl couplers. It is painted with Testors enamel, lettered with Herald King H-546 and weathered with chalks, pencils and graphite.

Those Rock Island cars just wouldn't die, they also got SSAM reporting marks and were on WC taconite trains for some years in the 90's/early 2000's. Nice looking hopper.

Working on the mixed doubles bowling tournament all weekend, finally got some pictures of the last weeks progress done. Worked on some more kits this last week, still have not got my painting area set up yet, and I was not going out to the garage and paint in this weather! A pair of covered hoppers that I completed, will attach the roofwalk to the larger one after it is painted and decaled as I want to leave it in its galvanized state. These will both be for the same railroad, but vastly different paint schemes. Atlas FMC 5077CF Boxcar Kit. Exactrail 4427CF PS Covered Hopper kit, have the weights installed, bulkheads, frames, and slack adjusters installed. Another shot of my SD45's with a mixed covered hopper train of PC, PRR and NYC cars. Thanks for looking! Rick Jesionowski

Some of you might remember this. I built it about 10 years ago and posted a few pics then, mainly on the Diesel Detailer site. I was going through some old pics and found it. It was one my favorites that I built using a Kato GP35 and some Cannon parts.
