The Columbia Newbery and Laurens was a shortline railroad in South Carolina eventually acquired by the ACL in 1924 and absorbed by CSX in 1984. This car represents a 1952 purchase from ACF for general service. IMRC 1944 AAR kit with Carbuilder ends and 8' Door, painted with Scalecoat II Boxcar Red and lettered with K-4 Decals. in 1971 the PC ordered 1500 G47 Gons from Freuhauf, 1000 with steel floors and 500 with wood floors. The steel floor cars of which this is a model were mostly used in hauling scrap steel and after Conrail some were fitted with racks for hauling steel colis. This is a Railyard Models Resin kit, painted with Floquil PC Green paint and lettered with kit supplied decals. Thanks for looking! Rick Jesionowski

Another Sunday and more gray skies here in Texas. It's downright depressing. That little groundhog has caused me a lot of grief this winter. I've been playing around weathering various coal hoppers in the past couple weeks. This is a factory painted Walthers model that has been sealed with dull lacquer and weathered with a mixture of various colors of powdered chalk. The interior is a mixture of charcoal and deep brown chalks along with powdered graphite. I also hit the edges of any worn surfaces with graphite. Some rust-colored chalk was rubbed into the interior to make it a little less monochrome.

The various double door "IPD" cars and their resulting restencils are one of my favorite typos of cars.. This was was actually built from an extra decorated kit. Most of the paint was scrubbed off, and then it was repainted. Decals are a mix of Microscale, Herald King, and custom decals by Precision Design of Canada. The car number and basic pattern were taken from the one photo that I found online 6 months ago; Later, I was given more photos by someone, so I based the weathering off those as they were closer to my modeling era. Weathering was various oils. When I was 15 or 16 years old, I took the top photo in Medford, Oregon with a craptastic 110 camera. One of the 1st railroad photos I ever took. Today, I almost finished it in model form. Probably need another coat of flat clear. Model started as an undec Atlas model. Built stock, with the exception of the Moloco draft gear. The prototype photo I had and used for the car number wasn't really worth much so I based the weathering on other cars I found online. Painted by me. Decals were custom done by Precision Design of Canada. Weathering was various oils. I did try a Vallejo acrylic wash for the white paint bleed, but don't really care for it. Not perfect, but I feel it captured the overall look of the car.
